My husband read this in the paper and told me about it yesterday. Wonder if Princess and Holland America will follow suit. It's a shame for those who live on this coast because of the short distance to start a cruise. Much easier than flying cross country. We've done the Mexican Riviera cruise many, many times, but would go again if the price was right for the above reasons. The last one we did was from San Francisco round trip for 10 days. It was great to just have someone drive us to the pier with no flying at all. I'm really sorry to hear this.

I wonder if this has more to do with the economy, i.e. the cruise line can make more money elsewhere (Australia), or maybe it is the declining passenger counts. The ports for Mexican Riviera has generally not been hit by the drug violence and I fear it maybe just an excuse to relocate.

It's probably a combination of both Eschew. On our last Mexican cruise we were supposed to stop at Ixtapa/Zijuatanejo, but because of narc problems there we went to Manzanillo instead. Acapulco has also had its share of shootings, etc. and is usually included on some Panama Canal cruises (we sailed from there on our PC cruise). I agree that the 7-day cruises to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan should be considered safe, with each city without the problems that plague other cities in Mexico.

In 2009 my father did a RT from San Francisco, NCL had these cruises every 10 days. I thought of doing the same in 2010, oopsss, too late, no more!
Princess was doing RTs from SF to Alaska in summer, Mexico in winter - no more.
