I drink water, coffe and tea all day long. I am taking the Alaska northbound 7 day cruise in June. Is the beverage package ($14/day) worth it? Do I need to get it or would I be better off just picking up tea in cans from ports we stop in?

It depends upon what the beverage package ($14./day) consists of. It may be soda, etc. and if you only drink water, coffee and tea then I would not bother paying the extra $ for the package. You can get free water, coffee, and tea 24/7 on cruise ships on the Lido deck where they serve the buffet foods. They have stations at several spots on this deck and you don't pay for this amenity. We just did a transatlantic cruise on Celebrity and they had the free coffee, tea stations.
They also had an afternoon snack (around 3:30 or 4 pm) on the Lido deck and had all sorts of freshly made cookies, cakes, etc. and you could sit and have coffee or tea, all for free. We would sometimes get an ice cream on this same deck (also free), grab a cookie, a cup of tea and enjoyed our afternoon snack. No calorie counting on that ship. A 7 day cruise may not have this same amenity but as I said, coffee, tea and water are also free. If you drink soda, then you might consider the beverage package. I am sure you could find other ways to spend that $14. Have a great cruise. We loved our Alaska cruise.
The $14 package covers soda, premium tea and coffee plus juice. If you can do without, or think you can't get your money's worth, then skip it.
The $18 premium package adds bottled water, specialty coffee, frozen non-alcoholic drinks, smoothies and energy drinks which I thought would be a better package and easily worth the extra $4 (per day).
