Casual Cruises
Hello All,

I'm interested in finding a cruise that is strictly casual dress; is there such an animal? I had heard that Carnival's Destiny cruise line offered casual dressing cruising, but I have only seen that in one place. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance to everyone for their input and feedback.

Kim
Hi Kim,

Carnival is not completely casual. It is advisable to dress on the 2 formal nights (7 day cruises). Also no shorts are allowed on other nights in the dining room. You might find jeans but I would not recommend it.

You may dress casually at the buffet every night but buffet food is not the way to vacation.

If you wish total casual you will have to sail the masted ships of Windjammer or Windstar.

Paul

Wndjamer cruises are great, just be aware that the cabins are what can be described as early boy scout camp. Cabins are kind 7x7with one corner angled off to form a multipurpose head (as in you can take care of all bathroom function in one siting so tospeak). but you do spend most of your time out of the cabin (Sleep sower andchange clothes)

Hi Kim,I recently sailed to Alaska on World Explorer Cruise Line and their ship Universe Explorer is completely casual. No shorts(of course)in the dining room for dinner but lots of folks wore jeans.I've cruised many times but this was the most relaxing cruises I taken, quit enjoyable.

Hi kim- we just got back from the Windsurf (part of the WINDSTAR cruise line) to the West.MED--very casual and upscale yuppie--strictly casual--in dining room at nite-NO COATS AND TIES ARE REQUIRED AT ALL!! Women wore linen slax with silk shirts or knit outfits--term is casual elegant--incredible food-email me direct for any other info you need....WINDJAMMER is another line but it is more a barebones cruise- t shirts and shorts-food ok----BOTH lines are 4 masted sailing ships---P>S> you will love WIndstar--my husband(after 25 years of cruising said it's the only way to travel-with no coat and tie!! We're going back again as soon as we find the right itinerary

Hi Kim,

I guess we should ask what you mean by "casual." Ship casual means not beach wear or grunge (except for teens) in the dining rooms.

Example: Renaissance is casual but the policy is resort wear. Jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, halter tops, bathing suits, cut-offs are all not acceptable.

Paul

Kim, if you want the Nth word in casual, try RiverBarge Excursions out of New Orleans. They are at 1-888-GOBARGE or www.riverbarge.com. Casual all the time - open seating at meals - NO TIPPING - shore excursions paid for -staterooms are 200 sq. ft. Could go on for hours. We have taken two trips and are booked for third next March. Good luck and let us know what you do. Thanks.
