Burmuda Cruise questions:

I am thinking of a cruise to Burmuda-taking husband/son 30yrs/daughter 23yrs. Need to know where I can get the best buy and the best time to go-probably warmer months-probably next year. We live in DE and there are cruises out of NY (which will eleminate air fare). If you can give any suggestions - thank you.

You can go from New York or Boston...The best time is before school gets out....my favorite times are end of May to mid-June and second week in September until fourth week.. You can watch eventually the cruise auctions..we have taken the Majesty out of Boston for 8 years..going again the end of May this year.. For more info go to..
www.keyguide.com/cgi-local/index.cgi

We don't cruise to Bermuda but have been there during the 1st week of September for the last two years. The weather is hot and humid but I love it. You also risk the chance of hurricanes during this time. Our first September was sunny and hot however last year we had mostly rain and very high seas. We also stayed for a week at the end of October. The weather was lovely - warm during the days and you needed a sweater during the nights. We went swimming several times but the locals thought we were crazy. I would recommend you cruise to Bermuda, it is an expensive Island - food and accommodations. Also I have noticed some of the attractions (ie sailing/snorkelling, etc.) cater to the cruise ships when they are in. Most ships stop at two ports (both in Bermuda) so it gives you an opportunity to see the Island. Horseshoe Bay is a must if you like the beach. We always buy a bus/ferry pass and use it for getting around the Island by day. Easy to use and the busses are air conditioned. Remember, there is no shopping on Sunday and during holidays everything is closed. Try the Hawkins Island Cruise for a fun night and probably one of the best priced attractions on the Island. There isn't a lot of night life. The glass bottom boat ride is definitely worth it if you don't snorkel or dive. If you want an inexpensive place to eat with a local atmosphere, Robin Hood's is great. They serve regular pub food (and great pizza) and have pool tables, etc.

Hey Dot,since you're from Del. why not sail from Philadelphia aboard the Crown Dynasty leaving from the Navy Yard. She sails from May thru Oct.,in fact she makes a couple of cruises out of Baltimore.Contact Apple Vacations through most any travel agent for more details.

We went last year out of NY. You sail past the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Verazanno Narrows Bridge, a great sight. Some of the Cruise companies run busses from the northeast to the ship. Check out whether this includes Delaware.
All the ships take a day and a half to get there. This can be a fun day depending on the North Atlantic weather. They have different ports of call (St Georges, The Dockyard, and Hamilton) on the Island. We docked for 2 days at the Dockyard then 1 day in Hamilton. Better would have been all three ports or more time in Hamilton. You can get all around the island easy enough though with taxis and busses or if you are adventuresome scooters.
Best time to go is early summer. before school is out will be less crowded and less expensive. Avoid late summer and fall because of the risk of hurricanes. (they won't cancel the trip for a hurricane but you may find yourself in Boston or Nova Scotia rather than Bermuda)
It is a great trip. We took a family of 8 and had a blast. E-mail me for more info.
Bermuda is beautiful, clean, very British, and expensive (you save by eating on the ship). Plenty of things to do.
(Go Hens)
Hi Dot,

Do not book with Apple Vacations (Bermuda - Philly) at this time. They have lost the Crown Dynasty due to the demise of Commodore Cruise Line.

Wait until they have another ship on line or you may lose your vacation.

Bermuda out of NYC? Sail the Zenith or Horizon. Heads above Princess or RCCL.

Book NOW. Bermuda limits the amount of cruise ship passengers. There may be no more triple staterooms available on any ship.

Paul

I second the vote for Celebrity's Horizon outo fo NYC. Sailing out of NY harbor is a thrill you won't soon forget -- and coming back to NYC in the early morning is pretty wonderful, too. As Paul says, be sure to go while the kids are still in school, otherwise you won't enjoy it. They just take over the ship. Horizon is a beautiful ship, great food -- they do a good job.
