We're taking Norwegian Jade in Oct. Is it best to book land tours now on ncl.com or should we just wait until we dock? Money is an issue but convenience is also important. Would appreciate tips not just on this but also on clothes, etc. thanks.

Depending on where you are going you can save quite a bit of $$ by hooking up on another site with people on your cruise to share excursions.. Send a list of where your going.

Rome...also took a tour of the city and fell in love.. we used romeinlimo.. also going back to the Trevi Fountain, Colusseum, Panthenon.. and just the whole Rome experience..
Haven't been to Naples y et, but are going also i october
I have to agree with ParrotMom about sharing excursions. We did a very similar cruise with NCL out of Barcelona a couple of years ago and arranged private drivers tours via another site (cruise critic) and saved $100's. We also made some very good friends. It is a wonderful, tiring trip. I felt part of why we had such a fun, succesful time was because we planned ahead.
Have a great time!
Its better and much cheaper to do the excursions on your own and if you can find someone to share the cost with thats even better. We usually do it this way and BTW you may want to do some research into what you want to see in each port. Then get a cab and go!! Have fun. Larry
Do try to arrange private tours in advance. We just cruised an itererary similar to yours. WE did stay in Barcelona before the cruise and had arranged with tour companies and had wonderful tours- at much better prices than the cruise line (NOT NCL) offered. On the cruise we did the cruise lines excursions. We had done this before and regretted it later. We regret it again. My solution is to give up cruises and travel to set places for longer periods of time. The cruise lines are either not monitoring their tour providers are the profits are too great to change.
Thanks so much for your replies. It seems that private tours are the way to go.
Also, many of the travel sites recommend dressing like the natives to appear less of a tourist - and thus a target for pickpockets. Our experience this month in Barcelona and other W. Med sites is that youcan dress pretty much as you like and there will be many others who look like you. I think a lot of the dress concerns are over rated.
