We are AVID SNORKELER'S going to stop at St. John, Tortola, British Virgin Gorda, St. Barts, Jost Van Dyke and St. Maarten.
We have enjoyed St. John off the beaches and sailing with the Brown family. We thought the area around British Virgin Gorda was good but no comparison to St. John. St. Maarten was a bummer.Poor visibility and not much coral.
At each port they offer 2 or more snorkel trips. Since we are on a sailing cruise ship our main interest is excellent snorkeling.
Which tours to take based on your experience in 2003-2004.All feedback welcome. Thanks.

I now know why I received no replies to my question about the snorkel outings at the destinations on the itinerary of the 7 day Wind Spirit cruise out of St. Thomas.
We went last month and found the snorkel/sail outings to be poor to fair at best. Besides that they were $75-$140/person and while they were represented as 3-4 hour outings we made 1 or 2 stops with a total snorkel time of 60-75 minutes.
So, if you are going next year on the Wind Spirit with the expectation of good snorkeling at reasonable prices you will be very disappointed.
If you are going for the on-board service and the food you will not be disappointed.
i always bring my snorkel gear and i have often been disappointed - even by places that are supposed to be great (coki beach).
Anyway, in my experience, belize and cozumel actually had some of the nicest snorkeling.
