Best Cruise Line with Children

Wondering which would be the best cruise line to travel on with children? We are two couples in our mid 30s with a 17 year old and 5 year old.

Since you have a 17 year old carnival might be better. Disney children's programs are not for 17 year olds and he is too young for adult activities.
I wouldn't take my teenagers on a Carnival cruise on a bet. Their reputation for party time is greatest during spring and summer breaks when we cruise as a family. Even if the rumors aren't true, I wouldn't take a chance. Try RCCL, Princess or Celebrity. The "Voyager Class" RCCL ships are the greatest for teens - rock climbing, in line skating, etc. My daughter would vote them number 1.

Peter

We have a 12 year old daughter and want to take a Caribbean cruise this summer. I am very concerned about the cut-off ages for the kid's programs. My daughter would not be happy in a teen group. In researching RCCL and Carnival their brochures and websites have conflicting info and for RCCL it even seems like their ships have different policies. What is the best way to get a definite answer on this. We are more interested in the ship than the destination.

It seems to me that the cutoff for RCCL's groups was 9 - 13 and 14 and up.

Peter

Hi : we just got back from the Voyager of the Seas RCCL. We had our 13 and 17yr old sons with us and we could not have picked a better ship. The clubs are divided in ages during the day for every age group, ours were 13-15, and 15-17 and they were drop in and out no signing. For the younger age groups they were also split in to groups and they were sign in and out and more structured. Our boys loved the volleyball, basketball games and free court play times. We found that they pretty much met friends the first day and did there own thing half the time and did club things the other times. For younger kids the club was fantastic, the day was planned and posted so you could choose what and when you wanted to participate in. This ship was fantastic and not nearly as huge in feel as it was in size. We had adjoining rooms so our kids had freedom but were also close at hand, perfect. Enjoy your vacation. Karen

we took our daughter age 8 on the voyager the childrens progams were the best I've seen. Other couple who have also traveled disney cruises said the voyager program was nicer less children and more attention approx 25 kids in the 6-8 group. We had teenage 15 and 17 at our dinner table and they seemed to be doing lots of activities. The ship was wonderful highley recommend it

Hi,

Disney is great for the whole family! They have outstanding programs for the kids and for teenagers. There is a private area for teenagers only with adults only allowed on the day of embarkation during the open house. They have computers, coffee bars, movies, and tons of stuff for teenagers. Kids just love the programs on Disney cruises - you hardly know that there are many kids on the cruise at all because they are always in their programs. I've talked to kids on Disney and they think its great. There is also tons of good stuff for adults - backstage tours, cooking demonstrations, wine-tasting, and the Vista Spa and Salon is just great. The Tropical Rainforest treatment is addicting after a sticky day at the beach.

Have a great day!

Yes, Disney is great for kids BUT, it is much, much more expensive than the other lines, and truth be told, my children enjoyed their cruises on RCCL and Celebrity just as much as the Disney cruise. In fact, I recently asked them what their favorite line is, and they voted for RCCL.

The kids programs on all of these were great, but I would say Celebrity's was slightly less impressive than the other 2. Your kids will have a great time on most lines. You have to decide if Disney is worth the significant extra cost, and in my opinion, it's not.

My sons are 10 and 13 and have been on 5 cruises.
