Bermuda Cruise...Shore Excursions

We are heading to Bermuda on a NCL cruise in July. After some research I am wondering if I need to book shore excursions or can we tour and beach it on our own. We've cruised multiple times but never to Bermuda, we have maily booked ship excursions up to this point. I just don't want to find out that I should have....it seems that the transportation system is easy to navigate and we know what we are interested in seeing in particular the caves along with the beach (two adults and four adult children..) Any advise?

There is little reason to buy excursions from NCL.. You will be at the new Dockyard.. buy a 3 day bus/ferry pass and it will take you to St. George and to Hamilton and to the beaches.. You can take the ferry to either St. George or Hamilton and get a bus to the Caves..when your finished there is not far away...Swizzle Inn where you can "swizzle in and stagger out".. with their fabulous rum punch, fish chowder, chicken wings, etc.. and listen to the Bermuda symphony which is the ambulances going back and for those idiot tourists who insist upon renting mopeds.. Oh yes. across from the Swizzle Inn...is a great ice cream stand.. There is now an open air tram, but I'm not sure if that has to be bought from NCL or you can buy the tickets from the driver.. Have a Bermudaful day!!!

We did the Hartley Helmet Dive when we went to Bermuda and it is still one of my favorite experiences. Check them out here http://www.hartleybermuda.com/ You can touch the fish and it was great fun.

The Bermuda public transportation system is easy to navigate, clean and inexpensive - it takes you everywhere. The time to get from one end of the island to the other can be longer than you think - so plan accordingly. When we were in Bermuda for NCL we booked an excursion for the day of departure from Bermuda - that way we were guaranteed to get back to ship on time to sail since we did not want to risk traffic and other delays - so that might be a good compromise.

Thank you! I really wanted some verification that I should go without booking the expensive excusions! The Swizzle Inn had been suggested and yes we will stop! I was worried about getting back to the ship on time too, I will book an excursion for that last day! The Helmet Dive looked like fun, but we have one daughter who says no way!!!! Any other suggestions?
Thanks again!

There is an Aquarium/Zoo... I was not impressed the first time we were there years ago.. hopefully it's been upgraded..One of the things we did once was take a horse and buggy ride around Hamiton, there are/were open trolley rides of St. George..glass bottom boat rides.. Just riding the ferry should e fun for your daughter...wear plenty of sun screen.
