My son and I had the wonderful experience of being on a Star Clipper a few years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was great, many Europeans and a few Americans, and two Canadians (us). The dive staff were great according to my son. You may experience some motion sickness so do take some Gravol or other medication. It was my first experience sailing on a large ship and I would do it again in a minute if I could find more money. The crew partied with the guests on board and a great time was had by all in the evening hours. There is a great piano bar on board the Star Clipper which I thoroughly enjoyed. The rooms are small but very compact and well laid out. Tell your friend to have a great time.

Was on the Star Clipper on a Caribbean itinerary a couple of years ago. It was fantastic. Since then I've been on a Windstar cruise--the Star Clipper was much better sailing, though the Windstar food and rooms were more upscale. Cost of the Windstar was CONSIDERABLY more. I'm thinking of doing a Star Clipper cruise again in 2002. Kathy

How family friendly is this line? Kids and teens are evidently NOT welcome on Windstar.

Curious that you should say that children aren't welcome on Windstar; we were on the Wind Spirit last month and guess what -- the only English speaking channel we could get on the TV was the CARTOON channel!

Children are not encouraged on Windstar but they are on Star Clippers. There is no structured children's program on either line but they can join in the activities.

The clientele profile of each cruise line is:

Star Clippers .... 15% singles, 30% couples to 35, 35% couples 35 to 55, 15% couples over 55 and 5% families.

Windstar ..... 5% singles, 10% couples to 35, 50% couples 35 to 55, 44% couples over 55 and 2% children.

I am very interested in the ports of call for this cruise line...specifically Barbados,Tobago Cays,Bequia, Marigot Bay. Do you stay there long enough to get a real feel for the places..or is so fast that you just get to see the ports. Also, would a 17 yr. old be bored senseless. Heard that the food was not so great. My husband and I don't want to stuff ourself senseless, but edible would be nice. LOL.... This seems a wonderful cruise for folks who don't want to replicate the 'cruise' experience in a huge boat. Were there many foreigners on the boat? (A plus for us). Any help and inf would be gratefully received.

Can't describe the ports, it would take too long. As you know as with all cruises it is just a sampling.

The food is very good to excellent.

Nationality if the passengers is 80% U.S. and 20% other.

If you wish the other way around you will have to sail the excellent Peter Deilmann's Lili Marleen. It is remarkable.

Thanks for the tip. One more question for ya..,.or anyone who has been on this boat. I heard the Royal Clipper has a real rock n' roll about it. I'm fine on cruise ships and speed boats but am a little concerned about the swell. It would be grim to be sick...have they stabilized it? Again, Thanks.
