I already sent this question as a reply to another question on this forum but I'd rather ask it here for more of a response.<BR><BR>I'm wondering, are jeans acceptable in the dining room for breakfast and lunch if you're going on a shore excursion afterwards?<BR><BR>Sometimes there isn't time to change into more comfortabe clothes before leaving the ship.<BR><BR>I realize that those meals are also served on the deck, at the buffets, but I prefer to eat all my meals in the dining room where it's quiet and where the atmophere is nicer.<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Lydia

jeans do not belong in the dining room. if you have to wear them before getting off the ship, eat up on the lido deck.

Assuming you're in Alaska, jeans are definitely OK. Princess even states jeans are OK for after 6:00, as long as they're not ripped or torn. If you're in a warm climate, I'd think twice before wearing jeans; you'll roast!Besides, you might upset the clothes police ;-)<BR><BR>Regards...Bob

Jeans are fine in Alaska for breakfast or lunch. You'll see lots of other passengers wearing them. Not a problem.

Since dress codes are relaxing, it is acceptable to wear jeans before dinner. And no matter how much you dress up (even for dinner) there is always someone walking around with "less than recommended" attire!

I don't see what's wrong with wearing jeans if they're clean and ironed. I see well dressed people wearing jeans with a sport coat all the time. What gets me is all the "cruise people" who think it's 1950 and they'll be having supper with Cary Grant. Let's face it -- cruising ain't what it used to be. It's for the masses so let's stop being so pretentious and acting like it's something it isn't. The average auto mechanic can afford three cruises a year if he so desires.

Unfortuantely Art not everyone will wear clean jeans or nice sport coats with them.<BR><BR>So once you open the door...... "But these are my clean jeans". Is what will happen.<BR><BR>So no. Jeans should not be acceptable.

Wear what you want to as long as it looks nice. <BR><BR>I prefer to dress up on cruises, tuxedo on formal nights and a nice suit on the semiformal nights and nice slacks and shirt on the casual nights. <BR><BR>One thing I don't do is worry about what other peole are wearing. All this fretting on this board about what people wear is coming from young people with a limited experience in the real world and a very narrow point of view as to how things should be.<BR><BR>Wear what you're comfortable in and be considerate as to what the cruise line recommends in their info sheets.<BR><BR>I don't think anyone would mind if you came to the dining room for breakfast in jeans prior to taking a tour.

Lydia,<BR><BR>I guess I am reiterating the basic answers that I've read by saying it seems some cruises would easily accept jeans and others would not. Also, every cruise I've been on has been very specific about what is acceptable and what is not. I would doublecheck with the brochure.<BR><BR>JB

Some people can wear jeans with the right shirt, jacket or accessories and look better than others who are wearing evening attire. It's all a matter of presentation. <BR><BR>I agree with Art about how cruising has become a mainstream vacation for all walks of life. I work in an industry that commands wearing suits, dresses, pantyhose and heels to work every day except Friday. I have a big closet full of dressy outfits for almost any occassion. However, when I go on vacation the last thing I want is to put on all that garb just to eat dinner! I always "obey" the dress code, but I'd enjoy myself so much more if there wasn't such an emphasis on it.

Lenore since you seem to know how to dress I'm sure even if you wore jeans it would be tasteful. Unfortunately there are those who would not/could not do that. Therefore some kind of dress code needs to be enforced, otherwise you would see those lovely jeans with the rips down the sides with little bows.

Jeans are acceptable daytime wear, so they are ok for breakfast, lunch and excursions if you choose to wear them. They are not acceptable at dinner.<BR><BR>I generally do not wear BLUE jeans on a cruise. I take new black or tan jeans and wear them with a nice shirt, not a t-shirt.

Lydia,<BR> Just leave those heavy, cumbersome jeans at home especially if you are sailing the Caribbean. You really don't see many jeans at all on the ships. If you are planning to horseback ride on one of the islands then I would say yes, take your long, pant legged hot,jeans for protection. But even that doesn't mean you have to wear them to the dining room. Stick them in your back pack and wear shorts. Put the stinky jeans back in your pack to return to the ship after riding that sweaty horse.<BR> Now if you are planning an Alaska cruise.... a pair of jeans might be useful for that colder clime, hiking, kayaking, planning for gold,etc.<BR> Enjoy your cruise. Go in style!!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about wearing jeans in the dining room.<BR><BR>We are planning an Alaska cruise and don't you all think I would look kind of stupid wearing dress slacks or other dressy apparel as we watch the Lumberjack Show in Ketchikan or take the train ride in Skagway or pan for gold or dog sled or go to the salmon bake?<BR><BR>I am an older lady and pride myself on always looking presentable. I never wear torn or dirty jeans and always match it with a nice sweat shirt or tee<BR>shirt. <BR><BR>The majority of your replies voted for wearing jeans for breakfast and lunch and since our shore excursions are early in the morning, I think I will pack my jeans, be comfortable in the daytime on and off the ship and have a great time on our cruise.<BR><BR>Thanks again to everyone for your replies!<BR>Lydia

Once you wear a pair of jeans 2 or 3 times they look shabby and dirty. This is what I notice on cruises.<BR><BR>When passengers say they see many wearing jeans at dinner, how do they know? Do they ask everyone to stand up?<BR><BR>Paul

You can wear what you want on a Carnival cruise. You will not be the only one wearing jeans at any meals. You are on vacation, wear what is comfortable. I wear a suit and panty hose everyday to work. When I am on vacation I wear sweats and a t-shirt. I don't really care what others think about my clothes. If the cruise lines really cared about what you are wearing they would not allow you into the dining room. I have been on numerous cruises on several different lines and I have never seen anyone turned away because of the clothes they were wearing. I have seen folks turned away because they were dripping wet in swimwear.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear.<BR>I don't EVER intend to wear jeans in the dining room for dinner, I know better than that,I meant only at breakfast and/or lunch where it's open-seating and we'd be going ashore shortly after. <BR>And am planning on taking several pairs of nice jeans for when we are in port, so I would never be wearing dirty or wrinkled jeans. Also, I pack a travel iron, therefore I never wear wrinkled clothes, EVER. <BR><BR>I am not a slob! like some people made me sound.<BR>Lydia
