We have just returned from this cruise, and it was outstanding in every way. We were on the 2-year-old Amacello, which carries 148 passengers, 40 of which were crew. The ship was gorgeous: cabins are nicely decorated, bathrooms have granite countertops; showers are spacious; everything is spotless. The food and wines were wonderful (wine accompanies every dinner, usually from the region visited that day). The tours were great, and the tour guides really knew their stuff (the only disappointment was that Courtroom 600 where the Nuremburg trials were held is closed for renovations--no one's fault). The entertainment at night was fun, with very talented performers...there is a website; check it out...

So pleased to know that you enjoyed this cruise. We were on the AmaBella in early June for the Amsterdam-Budapest cruise. The vessel was on only its third cruise & everything was perfect. The Nuremberg courtroom was also under renovation when we were there, however our guide for the day did an excellent power-point presentation (yes really) on the trials, the main "players" and their fates, in the documentation centre. Our guide that day worked at the documentation centre, had written books on his subject, and stated that he lectured to young people, and to new members of the armed forces, for whom education on Germany's wartime past was compulsory. For me, the best guide of the trip.
I'm wondering if we had the same Nuremburg guide: David, originally from Scotland? He was superb.
I dont recall our guide's name, however he was German. I did not pick up any Scots accent, and I have Scots family. We also had an onboard lecture from a German academic who managed to deliver an outline of modern German history, from World War I and the Weimar Republic through to reunification in one hour. He too was excellent. As a history graduate I would really like to see more of these types of lectures (assuming they are good of course) than the glass blowing & strudel making demonstrations. Still...you cant sell history. They certainly solds lots of cute glass & yummy strudels.
