We are trying to plan a last minute Alaskan trip to include cruise and land. We are 2 adults with 3 children - 18,14 and 10. I am leaning towards a small ship experience with added land tour to Denali. Cruise West sounds great but slightly out of our budget - is there an alternative? Has anyone used Expeditiontrips.com? thanks for any advice.

Hi,
Cruise West is a soft-adventure, more casual type of cruise experience. The ships are smaller, and it has a more naturalist perspective in comparison to the bigger cruise lines that do Alaska. The smaller ships allow the crew to take guests into the smaller coves and get closer to the wildlife, the glaciers and the other natural parts of Alaska. But, Cruise West is more expensive, but highly worth the cost! It is a trip that your children will not forget. To make your budget, you might consider doing the cruise portion of your trip through Cruise West. They would see a lot of the natural part of Alaska, but still would be affordable. It is more difficult, but it is possible to rent a car or motorhome in Anchorage and drive up to Denali National Park and Fairbanks. The park rangers are excellent at Denali and the campgrounds were just beautiful when I was there. You can fly home from either Anchorage or Fairbanks. I have never heard of Expeditiontrips.com .
Have a great day!

Julia, while offering excellent advice, continues to advertise herself and her travel agnecy on this site. What are you going to do about it. I thought that registration was going to be the savior of this site. Since its inception, all I've seen is participation dropping by 75% and upshoots like this.
