Just returned from 8 nights on Young Island. Typed a lengthy report the other afternoon but it never posted! If one has any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. <BR>

Rose,<BR><BR>Can you tell me about the room & bathroom (nice or luxurious?). How was the service, secenery, & the beach water clarity? How is the food at the resort and do they serve fish or shrimp at dinner? What kind of excursion did you do? Anything else you can share would be grate. Do you have to take a ferry to get to the island? thank you.

Rose, Would love it if you could repost your trip report. Was married there ten years ago and would love to go back so am interested in hearing what you think of it, so I can see how it compares to how wonderful it was then.

Young Island is 200 yards across from St. Vincent the largest island in the grenadines -40 minutes flight from Bardados and I believe 20 miles from St. Lucia. In sight are the islands of Bequia and Mystique.

Don't have the time to answer all your questions right now But will try to get on about 2:30 PM my time time today.<BR>Here's a starter. The bathrooms are not lux. Basic with cassy maxwell toiletries, shelf for personalbles and a wall safe. (think of a rental house down the shore, clean but smallish vanity with single sink). The highlight of the bathroom is the access to the outdoor shower!!! <BR>Food was delicious, some shrimp was served. A set menu each evening with a seafood starter was offered and always a seafood option for your main course.Soups were wonderful and the presentation of each course was lovely and well thought out. Service excellent-remember no air conditioning. All meals are served out of doors under the palapa huts beach front. Although the heat was never an issue for us. Only the sun in the morning- so sit in the shade! Be back later<BR>

Young Island is a small green mountain sitting above the deep dark blue waters of the Caribbean and the Atlantic oceanwater. I think it's some 35 acres or so. It's the most beautifully lush island I've ever seen. The air is truely perfumed(especially at night)! The lush vegetation, palms, and various flowering bushes ,trees, and vines make it a tropical oasis. <BR>As far sceenery goes it depends on where your cottage is located. Most all face the island of St. Vincent. Again very lush from it's volcanic soil, and beautifully mountainous. Homes are in view all over the hills below down near the water are some small hotels and restaurant-bars. There is a main road there as well that can be a bit loud at times if your in a beach front cottage. Two hundred feet wide is a deep chanel where sail boats, charters, and some small dive boats are moored. (very pretty) The water is deep here and a dark blue color. Near Young Islands beach (small and man made) the sand is white (unlike St. Vincent where the beaches are of black sand) and the water is aqua with great clearity. Please note that the clairity of the water is fine thru out for snorkling and diving. The black sand around SV and under it's waters seam to make it appear darker.

The cottages are all great. You won't be dissapointed if you know what to exspect. Tiled floors and large stained lovered windows with a low stone foundation. A high beamed ceiling with ceiling fan (yes our room was comfortable even with out the air conditioning)We originaly had cottage 7 near the pool and behind a beach front cottage.Lush vegetation makes every cottage a bit private-of course some more then others. Sara at the front desk was very kind and offered to move us (I found out later to an upgrated room) when I mentioned my slight dissapointment in not being beachfront. I personally would suggest the upgrade to cottage 9 it's worth the money. The location of 9 is beach front on the side of the island with more open water views and a tradewind that blows constantly. It is so private fully fenced in with a private gate near the back of the pool. The yard has a hammock under a palapa with a large stone terrace, two caises, two chairs and two tables with another small palapa for shade. A very low picket gate leads four steps down onto the beach. From your bed you look out to SV and the water. My only objection to the entire vacation was the hard flat bed and the comforter, shamms, and throw pillows needed to be laundered. (although they were a lovely natural cotton damask in linen and ivory). Please note that the sheets and towels were always clean and the turn down service was so nice. Another urk were the little blond like ants. You'd find them here and there on the vanity and in the bathroom-YES I know this is the tropics. But one could not have any food out (even mints or gum left in my nap sak in the closet were invaded!!) Just keep everything you'd like to save in the little refrig. I do believe these accomidations could easily be more luxourious if the effort was made. But I suppose the idea was a cast away feel and in that SENSE it is luxury

Take the diving or snorkling excursion up the leeward side of SV. We did a private charter with Dive SV. BILL represents the company and is often at the bar before dinner around 7o to discuss and book trips. Larry was our boat operator and great. We went to the Falls of Belleine and snorkled Coral Castle (outstanding) stopped at a beach front restaurant and had a great meal of jerk chicken, coconut rice, local vegetables and plantains YUM. Dispite the looks of the place and the guys selling their beads. It's a full day 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They'll pick you up right at Young islands little dock after breakfast.(bring wet shoes for walk to the falls, a towel per person and sunscreen- your in your bathing suit the whole time ) At the dock the Young Island boat-ferry (adorable) will take you across to SV any time you'd like night or day. I hear that the island of Bequia is fun for a day trip of exploring with sand beaches and beautiful aqua waters for snorkling and fun bars.Hire awater taxi when there to get to and from the beaches. <BR>Hike up Young Island to the top for the great lookouts and sunsets. Lots of peacocks and birds up there. Snorkle around to Fort Duvette for great underwater sights. Remember a vacation is only what you make of it.<BR><BR>Young Island does have a sail away package for those with a steady stomach. I'd heard that the trips to the islands are fab and would highly reccomend it if you like to sail.
