My husband and I are trying to plan a trip and are stuck between 4 islands. Turks is our first choice. We are hoping for some advice from those of you who have been to T&C's before. Here is what we are looking for - we want a very laid back vacation. I would like to stay some where were there are hammocks to relax (that type of atmosphere) in and somewhere that promotes relaxation. I am looking for something affordable and the all inclusive is out of my price range. I am also a little concerned about the food. I am concerned about the expense of the food and also the variety. Unfortunately, I am picky. We are thinking of the Royal West Indies. Please give me any advice that you can!!!

We stayed at the Royal West Indies in Sept 07. I'm a big fan of Trip Advisor, but neglectfully did not post a review. We really enjoyed the property and the beach is AMAZING. Because we were there in the off season, it was really quiet but we were happy with that. We were also happy with our choice of a one bedroom with kitchen - we had our cab stop at the supermarket before hitting the hotel, and spent about $100. We had breakfast foods, light lunches and munchies in our room all week. That really worked out for us as we are light eaters. We went out for dinner every night.

The staff was great, and the property was nice. We never used the pools because the beach is gorgeous. Our room was kept clean.

Out of all of the tropical destinations I've been to, Turks & Caicos is my all-time favorite place. My husband and I went for our second visit this past December.

The atmosphere in Turks is definately relaxing! The beaches are beautiful and the color of the water is amazing.

There are things to do on the island, but not a lot. So you can definately kick back and not feel pressure to sight-see. There's great snorkeling right off some of the beaches, which we always enjoy.

The island is a bit pricey, especially if you compare it to other destinations like the Bahamas ro Mexico. That is why we've stayed at Villa Renassaince where we have a kitchen and can make some of our own meals. At the IGA grocery store, we usually find the same types of food we have here in the States, the brands are just different. The food at the restaurants is not much different than what you'd find in the states either, though you'll see more conch on the menu!

other resorts you could consider on provo are ocean club & ocean club west, the sands.
all above & rwi are condo style and provo has a great grocery so this could help with the dining budget. also plenty of restaurants that are more moderately priced - well by island standards anyway.

We stayed in Grand Turk for a couple of weeks and absolutely loved it. It is very laid back, friendly and has some good beaches. 2 weeks is probably a little too long a stay, but we liked it.We also stayed on Grace Bay beach in Provo and although beautiful, it was far more crowded with tourists and you really dont get to meet the locals like you do in Grand Turk. However, we did enjoy it. Stayed at the Sibonne on the beach, an old hotel but clean and comfortable, although the rooms were small. It is probably the best buy on Grace Bay Beach.

The Royal West Indies is a perfect choice, although somewhat pricey. But all choices there are. The location really is the best on the bay, and the food is to die for. The T-bone is unbelievable as are the pasts dishes. The island comes to the RWI to dine.
The beach is beautiful, the staff service is great (except for a couple girls who are aloof at best). Rooms are nice and are as descibed on the site. Higher floor gives a great view of the bay. I left a detailed trip report at tripadvisor.com - search under royal west indies
