We took at rip to St. Kitts two years ago. Worst vacation of our lives. Rude people, beaches were dirty and large pipes going into the ocean from the hotel and noboby could tell us what their purpose was sewage perhaps? Local people were way past being on carribean time and just ignored us all together. Jack Tar Village it self was so bad that after the last hurricane, they did not rebuild. Broken down rusted pieces of earth moving equipment just left on the beach, water was so choppy on one side of the island that people were being thrown in the large pipes that nobody seems to know anything about. the whole trip was so bad that we demanded our money back and they gave it to us. Stay away from any Jack Tar vacations!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.
But we were on St. Kitts last year and thought it was wonderful. The people were very nice and helpful (a little shy if anything), and the beaches were clean and the waters were calm on the south/west side of the island. We didn't stay at Jack Tar, but met others who did, including a couple married there, who had a great time and highly recommended it. I guess it all depends on what you were expecting from your vacation and the time of year that you went. Things change in two years time, but my guess is that you probably will never try St. Kitts again. Hopefully your post does not discourage others from visiting, but if it does, the island will continue to retain the non-touristy "island flavour" of the past. Better for those of us that do like St. Kitts! I wish you better vacations in the future.
We visited St. Kitts for a week in 1995, loved it so much we went back in 1998. I am sorry that you had a bad experience. Sometimes a little research goes a long way to making a vacation pleasurable. On the Leeward Islands we always check to be sure that our hotel is on the Caribbean side, not the Atlantic - that is why the water was so choppy where you were.
One of our favorite things about St. Kitts (other than the people) is the deserted beaches, on the South Peninsula, we pack a cooler and have the whole beach to ourselves. Of course, since there is no development on some of these beaches there aren't any servants to clean them up!
Good luck finding an island that suits you better
Hi there: I went to Cuba a couple of years ago because I booked too late and pickings were slim. Worst vacation of my life. Don't go there, it's definitely not an upscale kind of place.
