Woman alone in Old San Juan?

I'm going to be staying at the Ritz-Carlton in San Juan, PR by myself for a few days next month and I want to go shopping in Old San Juan. Am I going to feel comfortable wandering around by myself?

P.S. How far is the old town from my hotel?

Thanks.

It's about 15 minutes in a cab. We stay at the Ritz and go into old san juan when we go. I don't think it would be an issue during the day. DH and I would go shopping and sometimes separate and i never felt uncomfortable. use common sense of course. I wouldnt go there alone at night though.

Don't just go by me though- I never actually went down there alone myself-- just with DH. But that's my impression- i'd be curious to hear what others have to say.

Take a cab there and back, dress modestly, and make sure to leave before dark, and you will be fine.

I have spent many weeks in OSJ by myself. You should have no issues, I have never come across anyone unfriendly or threatening at all. Its a great place and fun to walk around.
Definitely stop in Cafe Puerto Rico for some traditional food.

Have fun!

Thanks again. I just didn't want to go all that way and be stuck in the hotel all the time!
