Where to stay on St Thomas?

Hi - was wondering about ideas of where to stay on St Thomas for one night - we will be flying in and staying the one night before taking the ferry over to St Johns for a week, so maybe somewhere near the ferries? Was considering the Marriot since Blue Havana seems like a highly reccomended restaurant and that would certainly be convienent... Any advice would be great!

marriot will be fine. havana blue is wonderful. the hotel has it's own ferry service into charlotte amalie - maybe more useful getting to st. j ferry than a taxi. if you can stay in the morning star section of the hotel -it's closer to their beach.

We did the opposite, stayed a night in ST Thomas before the flight home. We stayed at Island View Guesthouse; family run place. They had a good rate [$99 for a room with a/c], a small but clean room, a nice pool with a great view of the harbor, and they have a great place to have dinner right on the premises. We split a HUGE steak and it was excellent.

You don't mention budget but AI's aren't really popular much on St. Thomas. If you stay on the east end at the Ritz or it's next-door neighbor, the Elysian or at Secret Harbour you'll have access to good restaurants without driving as well as Red Hook with the bars/restaurants there as well as the ferry to St. John.
