Where to stay on Great Exuma?
We will be attending a wedding in Great Exuma in June. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on where to stay? We are currently booked at the Four Seasons because that is where the wedding is. I would like to explore my options because we have 2 small kids (age 2 and 4) Staying in a hotel room for a week is difficult with small kids. We are interested in cottages or beachhouses too.
Also, I have heard bad things about the Four Seasons in Exuma. Any comments?
Thanks!

I have been going to Exuma for about 20 years and am personally biased against the Four Seasons being there--it is a totally different experience from what I and many people think the Exumas are all about. People go to and have bought places in Exuma to escape exactly what the Four Seasons brings - wealthy, type A people who want to be pampered at a resort and are probably not tuned in to the community. It is a full service, "luxury" hotel and the rest of the island is on a totally different wavelength. However, The Four Seasons has brought jobs to an area that really needs them. Some of my Bahamian friends are thankful that their children do not have to go off island to make a decent living.
Ok, having said all of the above (forgive my rant) if a rental is what you want I would try going to www.vrbo.com where there are some rentals listed. Be aware that Exuma is a bit on the rustic side. If you stay away from a resort like the FS you may have difficulty coordinating things like childcare, groceries, etc. You will most definitely need a rental car and I suggest you arrange that now since they run out sometimes.

Also, when we were at the Four Seasons 10 months ago the food was terrible. The 2 resturants were expensive, not surprising, but if I had paid half the price I would still have been disappointed. The G.M. said they were going to address the issue, it was not a surprise to him, others must have been complaining it seems, so it may have improved since April 2004.

I’m a big fan of the Bahama Out islands and while I’ve never been to Great Exuma I have researched a trip there. The following are some places that are worth investigating and I would think offer a better value than Four Seasons:
