Where to go in September
I am planning a honeymoon for the end of September and will most likely go to Provo. I'm also interested in the BVI and Anguilla. What are the chances of my trip being ruined by a hurricane?

What are the best islands during hurricane season?

thanks

Aruba is the best island during hurricane season. Hawaii is great too-and cheap because it is sholder season.

Anywhere int he Caribbean is hurrican season from August-thru at least the end of november witht he bulk of hurricanes in septememer-october.

The end of September is when you have pretty much the maximum chance of a hurricane. Nevertheless, the odds of a hurricane in any given week are still pretty low. Don't forget though that another term for Hurricane Season is RAINY season. The odds of you having lots of rain at that time are very high.
The best islands to visit weather-wise during hurricane season would be Aruba, Bonaire or Curacao. Grenada is a fairly good bet too but not as good a bet as the three ABC's.

Hurricane season officially runs from June thru November. However, the more northern islands tend to get hit (IF they get hit) during September....typically the first two weeks.

Be aware, however, that a hurricane can actually hit at ANY time during hurricane season. September is just the usual month for the more northern islands in the Caribbean. Lenny (the last one in this area) was in November, actually.

It is true that the more southern islands are typically out of the hurricane belt and are thus safer to visit during hurricane season. But to be honest, the odds of having a hurricane ANYWHERE on the exact week
you visit are very slim.

So plan, go, and enjoy!

Hi Ross

My husband and I also got married @ the end of September and opted for Aruba due to the weather issue.

We loved Aruba so much that we went 2 times since our honeymoon.

We now realize that we do need to try other islands.

I know someone who went to Antigue in late September and had fabulous weather.

Enjoy your trip, but if you or your fiance are going to worry about the weather, you may want to book Aruba or Hawaii.

Congratulations and have fun!

congrats once again Ross.

To clarify: Shoulder season just means off season. Hawaii is not as popular in september in october so prices are lower and it is less crowded. The weather is great though.

I agree with the others on the board-you may not be dircctly in a hurricane but it is rainy season adn you could be affected by a hurricane somehow.

If weather is a concern, Aruba is your best bet.

Have a great trip.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weather in the Caribbean - I have found that even if the weather forecast says 'rainy' or 'cloudy' this really means 'some rain or clouds (for 10 minutes or half an hour at most) and radiant (and hot!) sunshine the rest of the day'. So it can't be compared to our sort of climate. As a previous poster said, weather-wise Aruba is your best bet - very stable weather because it's so close to the equator.

Shoulder season is generally the month prior to and post Season which is generally December 15 to April 15 but can vary depending on date of Easter. The rates are not as low as off season but not as high as season.
Weather predicitons are like the lottery. NO place in the Caribbean is entirely safe and some islands will feel effects of storms elsewhere.
Choose what you want and fits you best, get trip insurance and if you are interested in the BVI's or Anguilla, Aruba will never satisfy. September and October is when the Cape Verde hurricanes are more likely to strike where you are interested in going but the chances of one paticular island or area getting hit are pretty hard to predict and statistically insignifigant.

We go to the Caribbean end of September and beginning of October for our anniversary.
We've never had a hurricane (knock on wood).
If you're so concerned, do Aruba, Curacao or Bonaire (all 3 are right under the hurricane belt).
Done Aruba, enjoyed it but very touristy so you know.
Haven't done the other 2.
Enjoy your honeymoon.

Caribtraveler-

If you go to Aruba in September or October, it is NOT full of tourists. You will find alot of seclusion.

I went there during their busy time and also on off season and there was a night and day difference.

In September & October, truly you see nothing but honeymooners!

Enjoy!
