where to go for honeymoon?

My fiance and I are getting married the end of September. We are looking into a honeymoon in the Caribbean... we wanted to go to Europe, but don't think we can take that much time off (I'm a teacher and will have just come back to school after the summer off)... we also don't have a ton of $ to spend, considering weddings cost a ton. We were thinking about St. Thomas, Bahamas, Bermuda, Puerto Rico.... we just want somewhere relaxing and beautiful for a few days that won't cost a fortune. We like B&Bs but are ok with larger hotels too. Any suggestions?

Check out "Couples Negril" in Jamaica.
at Couples.com
We were there in April and loved it.

Rent a villa in St John. Much cheaper than hotels.
It's off season so prices will be cheaper. You can save some money by eating some meals in. (breakfast or lunch) It's a very laid back island with beautiful beaches and stunning views.

Good Luck and congratulations!!!

I honeymooned in Bermuda 15 years ago and am now a repeat visitor always counting the days to return. Bermuda is a gorgeous, romantic island. I highly recommend Pompano Beach Resort (pompano.bm) - the first look upon arrival is guaranteed to take your breath away - have a look at tripadvisor.com for endless positive reviews. Congrats!

Bermuda may be a bit of a luxury on a teacher's salary, but it's renowned for a reason. The hotels are very nice and the island has unique qualities that aren't easy to describe. Lots of shopping, very gracious people and if I could choose a honeymoon anywhere again, it would be Bermuda. I wish I could define it better. You just have to see it.

I second St John..I have not been there yet. Will be leaving on Wed. morning.I have done alot of research and I would rather go there than St Thomas for a honeymoon. It is said to be real laid back and beautiful.Sounds great for a honeymoon.Have fun wherever you end up going.

We just got back from our honeymoon to the Turks and Caicos islands (click on my name for a recent trip report). We really enjoyed our trip there, however, the island (Provo) is going through a heavy construction phase.

I've heard good things about a couple Al's in the Dominican Republic that you can do for very inexpensively. St. Thomas is supposed to be touristy. You might want to look at Harbour Island, an Out Island in the Bahamas. We really liked the looks of Coral Sands in Harbour Island (I believe that Colin Farrell recently stayed there on vacation) when I was planning T & C (www.coralsands.com), and depending on where you're flying at you should be able to get a week there w/airfare for around $2500.

I've been seeing some good deals for St. Lucia on Tradewind Tours (www.tradewindtours). We booked our honeymoon through AAVacations (www.aavacations) and we were very happy with the service. I just looked on their website for some deals that you could look into and I saw a couple that seem promising. Go to "Deals" on their home page and then look under "Caribbean."

Good bargains on nice hotels are definitely out there to be found. I suggest that you sign up for e-mail alerts from Travelzoo and Sherman's Travel and you'll get some good leads. Good luck!

IMHO...St. John usvi...nice place just up the hill (great view) from Cruz Bay , is Estate Lindholm.this is a small inn, 10 rooms, all w/balconies/private baths, micro & frige.this is a beautiful inn/ parts of which are built from old danish ruins.there also a pool and honor bar. great family, owned & managed. terrific place to start your life together. staff is very helpfull with day trip, restaurant or any island info. site is www.estatelindholm.com .. st. john is a beautiful, laid back island but does have some great restaurants, bars, plenty of fab shopping and of course some of the best beaches in the world... good luck

I'll second tess53's suggestion. St. John would be perfect for a honeymoon. If you want to just relax on the beach you can, if you want to take day trips and keep busy that is an option as well. My husband and I just got back last weekend. We stayed at Estates Lindholm which is a delightful B&B (the website does not do it justice) that was both convenient and felt very private (from our balcony we never saw anyone just the lovely gardens).

Playe Del Carmen (Mexico). From my experience, cheaper than a lot of the Carribean and plenty of option for accomodations. Also, it's only 45 minutes from Cancun (cheaper airflights). Good luck and congrats, S
