where to go?

My husband and I have stayed on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman for the last several years. We're looking for a new spot to go. We like fine dining, a good beach to walk, oceanfront condo property, quiet locale. Any suggestions for island and property?X

We have been to all that you listed...Anguilla 3 times and Turks 4 times, I would pick Turks & Caicos, check out www.thesomerset.com great staff, beautiful condos( marble, granite, Viking appl. etc) , 2 excellent on site restaurants , 12 mile beach to walk and The Somerset is walkable to other dining options.

We are planning a back pack trip to the caribbean. We are looking to fly into St. Thomas then take ferries to St. Martin/Anguilla/St. Kitts/Antigua/Guadeloupe/Dominica/Martinique and St. Lucia.
We would be gone for two months Feb/Mar 2010.We are looking for island and ferry information as well as low key guest house at each of the islands, any suggestions?

hmiels, another vote for Turks and Caicos. People refer it to Caymans 15 years ago, only it has a better main beach! Stay in the "middle" (Alexandra, Sibonne, Somerset, Palms, Sands Villa Renaissance) and you can walk around to numerous restaurants and shop strips. The settings at the restaurants are stunning! Great water excursions too, to isolated cays with stunning beaches, and good off the beach snorkeling in areas.

KarenDeegan: St. Thomas only has ferries to other Virgin Islands, you'd have to fly to the others (and probably backtrack.) In 2 months, you can hop, but it's not easy, big distance open waters seperate many of the islands, so no ferries--and no airline has island hopping passes. It's not easy as in Europe or SouthEast Asia. Additionally, you can't just go down the chain, most require flights from either San Juan (sometimes with over night due to times of flights), some can be reached by St. Martin, check out Liat Airlines. But keep in mind when planning, give yourself plenty of time in between, Liat is notoriously late or can cancel flights on whim. You can ferry between Anguilla/St. Martin, but then have to fly to next one. St. Kitts has ferries to Nevis, but Four Seasons is currently closed, it may affect the ferry. Antigua only has ferry to Barbuda (and you need big bucks to stay there!) The rest on your list don't have ferries to each other, and require for the most part, backtracking usually to Puerto Rico by plane. Also consider taking tons of money: Feb March is peak season, so for example, low key guest house in Anguilla will put you out at least $1000 a night, St. Thomas is expensive, St. Martin at the time will too.

However, you'd have better luck for what you want in Central America=Belize, Honduras and Cost Rica. Sounds more of what you're looking for.

We have stayed at the Sands, Palms( our honeymoon) and the Somerset--Somerset is best and most quiet!

Thank you everyone who replied, your info greatly appreciated.
Espcially to you Blamona for your detailed and very informative email. I too was thinking of Costa Rica, get in before the prices start climbing, which I believe they already have from our last short visit.
