What to Pack? Malliouhana.

We leave in two days for Anguilla!

My husband and I and our two children (ages 3 & 6) are staying at the Malliouhana, 6 nights in a junior suite with connecting double room, oceanview.

I am in the middle of making my packing lists. What to pack? I think I'm set on clothing. Nice casual light clothing. Do I want to pack bug repelent? Snacks for the kids? Sand/beach toys? Kids/adult snorkle equipment? (I did call the hotel and they do have these items - but I wonder if they will have enough for all guests and if it is in good shape) Anyone out there recently visit Malliouhana and can help me out with this?

I know I am forgetting something important. Any suggestions on what to remember would be much appreciated.

Thanks-
Beth

Hi. We finally booked our trip to Anguilla! We are very excited and have many questions I was hoping you could 'all help us with.

"We" are: my husband, myself and our two children (ages almost 3 & almost 6) - I know it's silly to say "almost"... but the 2 year old will be two weeks away from turning 3 on the trip and sometimes 2 year olds sometimes travel/eat free.... so it's worth mentioning - but then again... he will be practically 3 and there is a huge difference between 2 year olds and 3 year olds (at least to those who have children this age) and since I went to the bother with the 2 year old... well, the 5 year old will also be close to turning 6. (ok, if I haven't lost you... : )

We are staying at the Malliouhana, 6 nights in a junior suite with connecting double room, oceanview. We are planning to eat some meals at the hotel - but 6 nights is a long time and will probably want to venture out a few times... here come the questions:

Just got back from Mali- our 23rd time. Know your questions well because we brought our two little ones for years. Casual nice clothing is fine. Yes snacks are a great idea as they are a great thing to have for the kids. They have a refrig in the rooms so picking up some fruit drinks on the way to the hotel- ask the cabbie to stop on the way- is great. Bring light sweaters for the evening as it can be cool and breezy. The hotel has wonderful kids stuff but bringing a few of your own is always great and a wonderful way to make friends on the beach. They have a can of bug repellant in the room but I always bring a few bottles of my own. Never know when you need it. Some years we never use and some years we do - in the early evening. My suggestion is that for young children books, coloring books things to keep them amused if there is a rainy day - and to hold off giving them until it is a rainy day is worhtwhile. We had one great week of weather but one rainy day. You and your family are going to love the whole place and it is well kept and children friendly. For the sunset on the patio they usually have a muscian so bringing the children to listen before the sun goes down is nice. By all means bring plenty of sunscreen for the children and reapply frequently even if if it is overcast. The beach boys are great. Ask them to take you out on the boat tubing. the tube is big enought for one adult and one small child. They don't usually advertise it unless you ask. Have fun. ask for Carlton in the dining room. He is great. The best dinner is also in the main dining room in the early evening which they reserve for families. You can see a beautiful sunset. Tell Carlton the Hauser' sent you. He has children of his own and can answer any questions you may have.

Thank you zwibbs11 ! Sounds like you are the person to ask about Anguilla.

Another question (this one from my husband): Money, do we need cash? Do most places accept credit cards?

Thanks again!
Beth

re packing snorkel stuff. i never like the idea of using a snorkel that's been in someone else's mouth. and my mask fits so nicely. the flippers could be rented though and they take up a bit of room. a hat if you can get the 3 yr old to keep it on. perhaps tight fittin t's to wear swimming if they get some sunburn.

Beth, i am wondering how Malliouhana was? I've heard so many bad things on Tripadvisor about how it is in need of a face lift and that the staff were not nice...any of it true during your trip?
