What to do in Grand Caymen while in port for 5hrs

We are spending our honeymoon on a cruise that will stop at Grand Cayman (August 7). We will be docked there from 7am-4pm approx. Can anyone offer some suggestions for interesting places and things to do that are not to far from the port or town area? Not too interested in tours, but places and things that we can do on our own that are withing walking or short taxi drive? I have been to a Grand Cayman website and there is a new craft market that has opened in July. Any suggestions or ideas would be great! Thanks-Andrea

We had this same schedule when we cruised with Carnival.

I don't have advice on the walking distance things so I'll just tell you what we did in case it spurs any interest.

In the morning we went out to Stingray City. It was really fantastic! It's a great boat ride out and then you are on a large sand reef that is about knee high. The stingrays are everywhere! We had a ball.

Then we came back to the main port and wandered around a bit through all the shops.

In the afternoon we took a scuba diving class (can't remember the place as it was also arranged thru the ship). We had pool classes for a bit and then went out for a 1 tank dive. Loved it!

It's a really quaint town so I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself. Have fun!

If you don't go to Sting Ray city, go to the beach in front of the Westin Resort. It is very nice. You'll need a taxi, but it isn't very far.

I agree about the Westin, its a beautiful property.... we went there for the afternoon when our cruise docked in GC. If you tip the waitstaff they will likely let you use the hotel chairs (we did this and had a beautiful and relaxing afternoon)

There's also a public beach at the north end of Seven Mile Beach, where you can rent chairs. It's reachable by public bus from downtown Georgetown.

Doug-
Is that Cemetery Beach? I hear the snorkeling there from the beach is very good. How long is the ride - bus or taxi- from where the cruise ships dock? (we'd get dropped off after a Stingray City tour so don't have much time)

Thinking of doing the beach in front of the Westin as suggested. But since this is such an old post just wanting to know if this is still a good recommendation. Hubby is going to Stingray City, so I thought I would do the beach.
Thanks
Also, since hubby and I are going seperate ways for a while-is this good idea to go off on my own? Safety, etc.

The Westin beach (beautiful, no vendors, clear turquoise water, calm.) Stingray City (an awesome experience!!) See link below for catamaran charter to Stingray City. We took this and had a fabulous time.

Is the sand bar still available?? I would do that instead.. we did Stingray City.. it was OK.. didn't like going down too far to feed the sting rays too much...

Skip the Turtle Farm, a big rip off IMHO....

Have fun!
