What To Do During Long-ish Layover in Nassau?
We have a layover from about 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. (need to be back at airport by 2:30) at NAS en route to Cat Island. Any suggestions of what to do? I thought perhaps we could have lunch at the Poop Deck, even though it will be pretty early and we'll be carrying bags, but I'm open to suggestions for additional/different things to do. Thanks!

We took a cab over to Atlantis but we didn't enjoy it very much. I wish we would have gone to Compass Point instead.
I can't recall if you've been to Cat Island before but I'm sure you'll love it -- it has so many beautiful beaches.

That's great, Callaloo. I just knew this couldn't be your first trip! We haven't been back to Cat Island since the hurricane and I hope they are recovering well. I wonder if Rita's Rum Shack survived on the north end behind the police station. If so, have a cold drink for me.
We're heading back to Abaco in April and staying on Great Guana Cay this time and will explore the southern end of the Abacos this trip.
"So many islands, so little time" -- so true!!
Looking forward to reading another one of your great trip reports upon your return. Have a great vacation.

BeacgGirl247- where are you staying in GGC? Please post a report after your trip. We had to cancel a March trip to Roatan due to my having knee replacement surgery in a few weeks and I have booked a July 4th week in Guana- for the Abacos this is pretty much "last minute" but I found a house finally. I have been there several times on day trips but never stayed there in my maybe 8 trips to the Abacos. I will be interested to hear about your trip- have fun!
Callalou- your reports are always fascinating so I will love to read about it. I was already starting to plan a 2014 trip to meet friends from the UK and we had narrowed it to Cat Island, Long Island (house near Clarence Town) and Provo/Grand Turk combo so I love your input!
Happy travels!! ish

We recently visited Cat Island and Exumas and had a long layover in Nassau. I searched and found this thread - we loved the suggestion of Compass Point, thank you! Wanted to add a few more details about how it works that might be helpful for others considering Compass Point as a layover option. It's really fast to get there from the airport (5-7 minutes) but be aware the taxi costs about $16-18 each way. That being said, we were happy to pay over $30 round-trip to get out of the airport for 7 hours! When you get there, leave your luggage by the main entrance. We were a bit wary of hanging out there for so long, but we ate breakfast, had tropical drinks, then stuck around for lunch, used their wifi, and they didn't seem to mind at all. Had a beautiful view of the water. For $20 per person, you can purchase access to their pool area to lounge/swim. We didn't think it was worth it. Don't make the same mistake we did - at one point, we tried to trek to the beach that wasn't far out of view to the left - but we never found an access point from the main road. Hope this helps!

Kas238 and others,
We stayed at CP once last year en route to Staniel Cay (on Flamingo Air from NAS) and thought it was a great choice. We took a sidewalk through and between the cottages until it ended in a path down onto the beach and then walked down the beach that afternoon. It was ok but we actually enjoyed the pool area better and spent most of the late afternoon that day there- a bit down and in an inconspicuous spot we also found a small hot tub,
