What is there to do around Reef Resort?
Hi- This is my first post here. You all seem very helpful and knowledgeable.
From what I have read, the Reef Resort is a perfect place for us to stay ( great rates and room types). But it is so far away from 7MB. Is there anything to do around RR? Are there restaraunts? Shops? Or do we have to drive to 7MB for everything? Is it really that far?
My husband is a diver so RR seems like a good bet for us.
Also, what is the best beach for toddlers? We are looking for calm waters and sandy beaches.
Thanks!

Hi, I run The Reef so hopefully can answer your questions.
- Yup, we are a fair distance from 7MB (we are about 40 minutes from George Town, a few minutes more to 7MB). To be honest that is part of the appeal of the place
- You don't have to drive there for everything, first of all we are a full service resort (restaurant, beach bar, tennis, gym, on and off site activities and tours), but also there is great snorkelling in at least 50 documented spots in our area, not to mention right off our beach, plus there are several great oceanfront restaurants in easy reach.
- Our beach is great for toddlers, as is the pool complex, which includes a lovely toddler pool with a Dolphin fountain.
- In summertime the waters are lovely and calm with a light cooling breeze
7MB has a sandy bottom along almost all of it's length. We don't, but contrary to what Joanie433 said, whilst in our area there are some grassy sea entry areas, it is not like that by our resort. There are some ironshore rock pads (great for kids to explore for crabs etc), but also we have two large swim entry areas.
I have young kids of my own and often come up here on my days off to hang out on the beach with them... I guess I eat my own cooking, so to speak !

You could always stay part of the time at the Reef and part on 7MB. We stayed on 7MB the past two years, but are going to do the Reef and 7MB next time for some variety. Plus Tom Cayman seems like such a nice guy! (smile)

dlam,
It really all depends on what your vacation needs are. If you are seeking a resort that is pretty much by itself, and somewhat isolated, the Reef would probably be a nice choice.
If however, you are seeking lots of action with tons or restaurants/shopping along with the best stretch of beach on the island, then you should consider the 7MB area.
We thought the east end of Grand Cayman was pretty, but just way too isolated for our tastes. Again, the isolation appeals to some, so it really depends on what (you) prefer.

TomCayman, Does the Barefoot Man still perform on Tuesday and Thursday nights? We will be returning to GC in October and we would like to drive out for dinner at your restaurant and stay for his performance. Thanks.

CaymanSue, Thank you. We will plan to drive out and see his show when we are there in October. My co-worker is coming to CG for the first time next month and I have been doing some research for her trip. I will tell her to make sure she goes to see the Barefoot Man. Thanks.
