What is the scoop with carry on luggage

Looking to carry on two small suitcases that will fit in an overhead and a duffle bag for under the seat. Flying American, is this possible? thanks.

You are allowed a small carryall and 1 personal piece such as a purse or laptop. The must be able to meet the airline standards which are posted on thier website. All others will be put into cargo.

Call American Airlines and ask, as the carry on allowances change. Now a pocketbook counts as a carryon, if they want to be sticklers about it. I would call or go to www.aa.com

tamara is correct. for AA it's one carry on that fits in the sizer and a personal item for coach passengers such as a purse. The dimensions are on the aa.com website. First and business carry on is more generous. Also remember if you are checking and connecting in MIA or elsewhere, domestic checked baggage allowance is now 40 lbs but direct to the Carib is still 70.

Correction: checked luggage allowance is 50 pounds domestic, 70 pounds on flights to Puerto Rico and Caribbean on AA according to aa.com. 40 pound limit is for carryons, altho I don't know how they will weigh those.

Carryon luggage doesn't really help you get out of the airport and to your hotel any faster, since if you are leaving the US, you will have to go thru immigration in your arrival country, and you may have to wait until your taxi/bus is full before they leave anyway. Can't tell you how many times I have seen people lug huge carryons [in years past] onto the plane, only to have to haul them sometimes up to a quarter mile up the tarmac - not air conditioned - then stand 30 minutes in line in immigration and I still beat them to the curb even with checked luggage.

Just got back from Hawaii two months ago on American and they are not being too sticky about the checked baggage weight. I have a humongous suitcase that probably weighed about 70 lbs and they did not charge me extra. They are allowing one carryon and one personal item. Basically two items. On the return trip I had bought one of those upright canvass things with wheels and put my purse and some of the things I bought in there and carried that on with my cosmetics bag. No problems whatsoever. However, since then they have changed the security at DFW and are now inspecting all checked baggage and I don't know how tight they are about it.
