wedding/honeymoon in Negril

Hello everyone!

I recently posted a message to try and decide where to get married/honeymoon. We have decided that Jamaica offers the most fun and beauty for our money. From looking around on this and other sites I have found that most people feel Negril is the best area in Jamaica. Does anyone else have any ideas about what to do/where to go and stay in this area? We are in our mid-twenties and while an AI seems to offer the best "package deal" for what we need (including wedding and airfare) ... we would also like to get out and explore a bit on our own and hope to sample some true Jamaican culture/countryside. Suggestions??
Thanks!!

We just got back from the Grand Lido Negril and would recommend that you eliminate that from the possibilities. Although we saw a few younger people in their 20s, including at least 2 honeymooning couples, most of the crowd was in their 40s-50s. I also wasn't overly impressed for the price we paid.

I liked the beach we were on but there are only a few resorts on Bloody Bay-Couples, Riu (families) and Grand Lido and the rest seem to be on the 7 mile beach which gives you a larger area to explore and is closer to downtown, Rick's, etc. and seemed to have a lot more young people.

I believe Beaches is also family oriented so you might take a look at Sandals which is on the 7 mile beach.

I'd recommend hiring a guide for at least one day to explore some of Jamaica. The resort can help you book excursions or you could use a private guide. We used Carolyn Barrett to visit YS Falls and the Black River (www.barrettadventures.com). It was pretty much the same trip that the resorts offer but we got to the falls before the groups arrived and got to see the falls without anyone else around. Mayfield falls is also supposed to be nice. I thought Dunn's River falls was a bit too commercialized.

Check out Couples Negril. It is located on the best part of Negril beach and the resort is great. It is an all-inclusive - www.couples.com

I also highly recommend Swept Away - we got married there in October and were very happy. Great beach, great food and very nice people. We also met some terrific couples from all over.

There are several excursions arranged by the resort (Catamaran Cruise is a blast) and shopping trips.

There are other off-site excursions you can arrange through the resort.

If you type in Swept Away on this site - there is lots of feedback and info - and a general Internet search would be worthwhile.

Good Luck.
