Weather ? October?

So..this will be my first trip to DR, SECRETS EXCELLENCE resort to be exact, and I am leaving in less than one week. I am very excited, however, my mood was dampened (no pun intended) when I looked at the weather forecast for the next 10 days!!!! RAIN??? Anyone shed some light on if it is constant rain or just a shower etc?
Also is this resort safe?

Any info to help me sleep better, would be great!

Thank you

Forecaste for most if not all Caribbean islands always predict rain. It's the tropics and it will rain somewhere on the island for some time every day. What the forecasts don't tell you is the rain when it does come is usually in the form of very brief and wily scatter showers. Not unusual for it to be raining in one area and have bright sun a 1/4 mile away. Don't worry about the weather, even the best of meterologists can only predict what it will be a day or two in advance, let alone 10 days out. Long range predictions are often just an educated guess.

I am also headed to the Caribbean (St. John) next week, Friday the 13th (hope that's not a bad thing) and I have been checking the forecast and it says the same thing, rain, rain and rain. But I have learned from the past that you cannot go by that. Just go and have a great time and don't check the weather forecast! I should follow my own advice!! - Susan

Almost every forecast for the Caribbean from September through November will show rain every day because it usually rains every day for a bit. Unless a serious tropical front develops, you're unlikely to get extended periods of rain, but this time of the year don't be surprised if you have at least one rainy day per week in the Punta Cana area. You'll get better information if you check the hurricane/tropical storm forecast. I like Accuweather.com for Caribbean weather information because they do a good job at hurricane detection.

BeachLadee, you should have decent weather on your holiday. My wife and I have for the last 10 years traveled to either the Caribbean or Mexico the first week of October and only once (last year at Akumal, Mexico) were we affected in any way by rain. As A_Traveller stated the weather services will list rain daily in forcasts but that is because you may get a shower sometime during the day or night. You will not get any significant rain unless there is a tropical depression or the remnants of a cold front from up north which i understand can cause a day or so of rain. We just got back from a week at the BVI's and it rained during the night two nights and half an afternoon one day. We could live with that. That has been our experience, some night showers and storms and MAYBE rain during the day one day. Dont worry about go and enjoy your travels!

we just returned from this resort on 10/15/06 the resort was really nice as well as the staff. dont worry about the weather the forecast said the same thing for our trip and we only had rain one day for a few hours and on another for a little while then passed and got hot not that it matters we were already wet and they have hot tubs. we found the resort to be safe they have security on the property. i hope this helpd you a little bit oh one other thing you may want to bring some bug spray with you .
