Wanting to return to T and C
Received much assistance from this board when we visited Provo in 2009. Am wanting to return but I need some advice on condos. We stayed and loved Regent Grand last time. Trying to go a little less expensive this trip I am finding Leeward Resort, formerly on Nikki Beach. It says it is on Grace Bay?? Looks gorgeous, but I can't tell if it is truly on Grace Bay or more of a bayish area? What about the Tuscany? Are both of these way too far off the beaten path? We will have a rental vehicle as we like to explore around on our own. Also, can you recommend activites? We love to snorkel, but my 15 yr old daughter wants very much to do someting more exciting than lay on the beach. She is looking for ziplines, ruins, something? Is there a glow worm tour anymore? Thanks so much!

You might want to try T & C 's web-site for things to do.

There are no zip lines or ruins there. You can find those in Mexico, which had tons of things to see and do that would interest your daughter more. T & C is all about the water and beaches, which is why we have never returned.
There is a guided jet ski tour in T & C that we loved.

It's important to take the 2 hour guided tour and not just the rental.

Leeward resort is very empty and you may be the only ones staying there-hardly any staff etc--it is NOT on Grace Bay--and yes on a canal'ish area...man made beach. Tuscany is at the Eastern end of Grace Bay and bit of a distance to restaurants etc. I would look at The Sands resort-great location.

Thanks for your replies. KVR, I was actually planning on Puerto Aventuras Mexico, but one our children's friends parents have expressed concern over safety. I know Mexico has the rep of a crime ridden country, but my research shows the Caribbean Coast to be relatively safe. BUT having said that, no one would enjoy a vacation with me in a constant state of worry. It would not be relaxing!
Caribzack! You were a great help last time we traveled to T and C. Thank you, I was concerned Leeward was not the Grace Bay we had in fron of the Regent Grand. I can not find a 3 bedroom at the Sands online but will call today. Tuscany has 2 available through VRBO. How far would it be from the Regent Grand area? We will have a mini van. Thank you both for your help.

Tuscany is on same price level as Regent Grand, so shouldn't make too much difference.
Leeward Resort is on a man made beach on the canal. (and it does have a isolated feel)
A little more lively, gorgeous rooms, but a 10 minute walk to beach, Atrium. You'll save tons, and they have lounges and umbrellas set up at the beach so you don't have to lug them around. It's in a residential neighborhood, but only minutes by car to everything. It also has a Fresh Bakery in it so you can get breakfast. Amazing value.
One of my favorite 3 bedrooms for a lot less than what you're looking at (and quite luxurious) check out West Bay Club. Includes a small breakfast, all units are beachfront, gorgeous property. It's on the other end of Grace Bay, a couple of minutes by car to everything.
For a lessor budget WBC delivers, and you won't believe how gorgeous the rooms are for the money.
As for exploring, take a 1/2 day tour on Island Vibes. Great boat, even has a diving board on the roof. It stops at a snorkel spot, dive for conch and sand dollars, and stops at stunning Half Moon Bay.
You can day trip to North and Middle Caicos. Go to Mudjin Harbour, there's cliffs with a small path that lead to stairs that end in a small cave with a secret beach. There are caves next to it that with a guide can be explored. North Caicos has Wades Plantation ruins you can get a guide and explore. Great new lunch spot at MH too.
Although expensive, you can always get a day pass to Beaches Resort waterpark, gives access to everything Beaches. (includes food, drinks, activities, etc)
What time of year are you looking at? If Whale season, you can take a day trip to Salt Cay and try to swim with whales. (Feb-April) drive a golf cart around looking for pirates graves and see gorgeous North Beach.
You can take a kayak excursion with Big Blue through mangroves.
You can take a scooter or trolley tour of Provo.
You can take ATVs through Northwest Point as an excursion.
You can rent bikes to get around to feel more active.
You can take skiing lessons, banana boat rides, parasailing. You can take the jetski tour mentioned above.
You can learn how to paddle board, the latest rage.
you can snorkel the reef, it's 2 properties down from WBC.

The tourists areas of the Yucatan Peninsula are quite safe. We've been going to that area almost yearly since 2000 with no problems. It amazes me how so many people voice safety concerns when they actually have never even been there, but only repeating exaggerated versions of what they have heard from unreliable sources. There are several discussions regarding this same issue on this forum and the Mexico forum.
There is also a very good detailed trip report over on the Mexico forums that was just posted. I was quite impressed of the areas they covered while having a fabulous trip. Please don't let scare tactics persuade you from not visiting a wonderful destination. You'll be missing out.

Just wanted to second Blamona's excellent recommendation for The West Bay Club. My MIL and family stayed in the 3-bed unit last November, and we stayed in the penthouse 3-bed unit this January. Both were out of this world and worth every penny! The beach is one of the widest and best sections of Grace Bay. It is remote from other hotels/restaurants, but with a car, no problem.
