on st. thomas i love secret harbour beach resort. quiet, delightful resort on great beach with shade, plenty of chairs, good snorkeling, and blue moon cafe -one of best restaurants on island. low key but fun beach bar. all units are condo style so a 2 bdrm would be perfect for you. thought of mentioning this on your other thread but you didn't list the vi's.

on quieter st. john. caneel bay resort is outstanding. they have 7 beaches on the property. this resort might be perfect for your needs.

the us&bvi's are much more lush and hilly than t&c or anguilla

We take an annual trip to St. Croix and always stay at the Buccaneer resort. We started going there in 1998 when our children were 1 1/2 and 4 and now they are 13 and 15! We chose it then because it was a full-service resort that offered us a two room 'family cottage' for a fair price. We continue going because we love the staff, never tire of the breathtaking views (the resort is built on a hill), love the great restaurants on St. Croix, like the ease of a resort with three beautiful beaches and beachside dining and the value for the money continues. We also like that it never seems crowded even when the resort is at capacity and that there aren't screaming kids and obnoxious parents. There is a nice mix of young and old, families and couples and generally just very nice people.

We go to St Croix every year and always stay at the Carambola. I know the Buccaneer is nice, but we've always preferred the North Shore area - the proximity to the rain forest and the mountains makes it so much more lush than the East End, and if you are a diver the Cane Bay Wall is close enough to shore that you can swim out to a wall dive.

Here are the places that we've stayed in the Carribean and would recommend:

St John (USVI)-
*Waterlemon Villa is a private home with awesome views of Coral Bay, and it has it's own pool.
*Concordia Estates Eco Tents - again beautiful views of Salt Pond Bay and Drunken Bay. Short hike to shores.

Puerto Rico-
*Villa Montana - a low-key resort right on the shores of the Atlantic ocean, in the northwest area.

Good luck, Valerie

Virginia - The snorkeling from the beach at Cane Bay is terrific. I'm sure it is great in other areas of Croix, too, but we know the North Shore/Cane Bay area best. Just as with the diving, the Cane Bay Wall is so close to shore in that area that you can snorkel out over it -- amazing, a little scary and VERY disconcerting the first time you do it! Yes, there are quite a few private villa rentals on the island, as well as several well-established condo rentals.
