Virgin Gorda or Bequia??

Terri,
We have visited both Virgin Gorda and Bequia as sailors. They are both lovely places, but quite different in many respects. Bequia is more lush and remote; while VG is a bit scrubby and close to its neighbors. Bequia has less in the way of restaurants, bars and other diversions, and is less accessible for day-tripping to its neighbors, and is pretty rustic. VG has a bit more action (but still fairly sleepy), and has several luxury resorts. You can't go wrong with either one -- just decide how much solitude you want (I would go with Bequia myself, but I like to really get away from it all).

Yes, I agree with Eva's comments. We just returned from Bequia area - bareboat chartered a sailboat - and love the reduced "traffic" in Bequia. We have also been to Virgin Gorda a number of times and loved it, as well. But, VG is definitely more commercial and less chance to actually comune with nature and with the indigenous peoples.

So, if you are looking for lots more tourists to hang out with and for more in terms of commercial establishments, VG has it hand down. But, I'd go back to Bequia, myself - same thinking as Eva.

don

I've never been to Virgin Gorda but Bequia is one of my favorite places. One night, or two if you're there for more than a few days, go to the Frangipani, sit in the white Adirondack chairs and sip a drink while staring out into the harbor on a gorgeous evening with the breeze blowing off the water. Maybe you'll get a treat and Elvis will be playing the steel drums that night (and selling Tshirts that say "I saw Elvis in Bequia")! Then wander down the path, that runs the perimeter of the bay, and have dinner at the Gingerbread - excellent curry. Another day, have lunch at Mac's Pizzeria - I recommend lobster pizza with extra garlic! A real taste sensation. Stop at the Whaleboner and have a beer while sitting on a barstool made of a whale's vertebra. Tour the turtle sanctuary (a true labor of love) and Moonhole. Had a wonderful meal at Le Petit Jardin but it's been a few years.
Enjoy your vacation and Happy Anniversary!
