Virgin Gorda - Aquamare Estate (Villas)

My fiance and I are considering renting the Aquamare on mahoe bay in virgin gorda for our wedding this fall. The villas look beautiful and it is a really good value. It isn''t listed on Fodors because it is 3 villas and not a proper hotel, but I did find it on Luxury Links which I trust. Has anyone here been? Seen it? Hear anything good or bad?............
thanks!

When we were there last fall they were still under construction but near completion, they looked likethey were going to be fabulous, although the beach in front of them is narrow. Very nice area on the island. We stayed in Loblolly Villa

Is there really construction on Mahoe Bay???
Oh-- come to think of it, when we were there in December, I did see a bunch of construction in the area near Giorgio's. I wonder if that's what's being referred to. If so, the villas themselves looked spectacular--but the beach there is much less attractive than at Mahoe proper (imho).

Construction near Giorgio's is new privately owned villas at Mango Bay Resort which will be available to rent. Probably be excellent for a wedding party. You can check Mango Bay's website for more info.

Aquamare Estate is in a different section of the island.

I am trying to decide between Little Dix Bay (I have been there before,) Aquamare Villa, and Four Season, Great Exumas, or the Grace Bay Club in the Turks. We are flying in 11 family members and have to have somewhere easy for all of us to get to because some have small children. We love Caneel, but were there in December and want to try something else.

I am leaning toward Aquamare, but want to have a nice beach. Someone on this site recommended Mahoe Bay, so I looked into it and found Aquamare. The other choice is Baraka, but it is on Nail Bay and although I love to snorkel, it doesn't appear to be a good beach for small chidren.

Little Dix is wonderful, but it seems to be the most expensive for 11!

Any comments about the beaches or villas would be appreciated.

BTW, Are there any good restaurants in VG? I don't remember seeing much of a town when I was last there.

Thanks,
WT

Mahoe Bay is a beautiful area and a great beach, although the end where Aquamare is gets very narrow. Have you loked at any of the other villas in that area? There are plenty of good restaurants on VG,Mine Shaft,The Rock Cafe, Barracuda, Leverick Bay has a great BBQ on Friday nights, the kids would love it,Bath and Turtle,Little Dix. They are scattered all over but that is part of the fun. We stayed at Loblolly villa last year and are staying at Adagio this year.

With the kids, especially, I too think you'd do better with one of the villas on the main part of Mahoe Bay rather than where Aquamare is. You might try Virgin Gorda Villa rental; I believe they have the listing for virtually all the villas at Mahoe.
To the list of restaurants, I'd add Chez Bamboo, our favorite of all. And many people like Flying Iguana (at the airport) very much.

As for restaurants (especially if you stay at Nail Bay or Mahoe Bay) I'd add Sugarcane at Nail bay - great food, well-poured drinks, and kid friendly- and Barracuda - excellent food and great wine selection. One of the reasons we fell in love with VG is that despite it's small, remote atmosphere, there were many good restaurants to choose from.

We stayed at Nail Bay and yes Nail Bay Beach is excellent for snorkeling but right around the corner is Mtn Trunk which is perfect for swimming and a good kid beach (also pretty good snorkeling to the far right . . . we saw an octopus!)

I would think that if you stayed at aquamere, it wouldn't be a big deal to walk over to the wider, more kid friendly section of mahoe beach. That said there are several large villas right on mahoe that could accomodate your crowd.

Thanks so much for all the help! I will look these suggestions up, but right now I am thinking I want to stay at Baraka Point. Does anyone know if it is close enough to Mtn Trunk. It is on Nail Bay.
Thanks again!
