Villa Suzanne in St. Martin

I am looking at renting the Villa Suzanne in Mar. A few questions I have---
How far is it from Dawn Beach? Much of an incline?
What is the address of the Villa so I can look it up on Google Earth?
What is Dawn Beach like? Is it good for swimming---calm water?
What is there to do at Dawn Beach?
Is the Villa close to restaurants? How about any night life close?
Are there mosquitoes in that area? Do they spray for bugs?

Thanks for any responses! Only stopping at St. Martin for a day on a cruise ship my knowledge is very limited. Should I be looking at a different area of the island? We are traveling in a group of 3 couples. We would like a condo or a villa, close to or on a beach, with preferably 3 kings beds, nice ocean views. I first was thinking St. Thomas but I wasn't finding a spot that fit our wants. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I stayed at Villa Suzanne for a week in 2009. The Villa itself is beautiful. We also had 3 bedrooms. One is on the main level, one downstairs, and one you access from the outside pool side. All of the bedrooms are beautiful with luxurious bathrooms.

How far is it from Dawn Beach - you can see Dawn Beach from the pool side of the villa - to get there, walk outside down the road to the left - you'll see a trail, you can walk down in about 5 minutes...the trail has an easy incline....if any of your party cannot walk down the path, you can drive over to the Westin, Mr. Busby's beach bar as well. The ocean tends to have bigger waves - not real calm...but swim-able. Dawn Beach/Villa Suzanne faces east - you can see St. Barts out of your kitchen window.
On Dawn Beach is the Westin Hotel and Mr. Busby's beach bar - I would highly suggest going there for breakfest and happy hour!
Restaurants - you have to drive over to the marina and there are a few nice restaurants actually. There are also some on the road heading to Orient Beach.
You are not close to nightlife - I guess I should ask what you are looking for however.
Mosquitoes LOVE me. I did not have a problem.

You will want to rent a car. You are about 15 minutes to Orient Beach (great beach with lots of beach bars/restaurants - can para sail from Orient, etc - very quaint and beautiful area, 20 minutes to Phillipsburg (duty free shopping, 30-45 Maho area - night life/major casinos...30 minutes to Grand Case - fine dining area and 30-40 minutes to Marigot.

A year later I stayed in a Condo on Simpson Beach. While the Villa was a tad nicer, I would stay in this Condo again in a heartbeat. Simpson Beach. I stayed at Condo Unforgettable - a 2 bedroom - but they have 3 bedrooms as well. It is on a great beach not that populated - it has condos and a few boutique hotels. It faces South I believe - you look at Saba - a must do if you like to hike or want to see a pristine island....it is very close to the nightlife, restaurants, the airport - which some would say is distracting...the flights stop flying before bedtime....and it's cool to watch them actually.

If you want to see my pictures, send me your email and I will point you to them on Facebook - or I can send them. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you have.

BellaClaire, Thanks for all the great info! I think you were the one who suggested the Villa Suzanne in an earlier post I had made. I read your post on your St. Martin trip and the part of them locking the unit from the outside was a bit disturbing to me. I have read a fair bit on this forum of the crime in St. Martin and have mixed feelings about going there. Beings I am the one finding the spot for us to go to this winter I don't want to lead my friends to an unsafe place. I would love to see your pictures! My email is [email protected]. Thanks!

Okay....I will email you a lot of pics tomorrow (11/2) and give you my phone number. When we stayed in Villa Suzanne, it was me, my Mom and Sisters! My sister stayed in the bedroom accessed from the outside and loved it...and you would never know it was only accessible from the outside - it's attached to the villa - you'll see when I send the pics. Also, this is a gated area with a guard there 24 hours.....I'll explain more in my email.....

Hi VRC

Don't get paranoid about the crime level here.

The vast majority of the crime is perpitrated by the locals (or illegals) on each other, and does not affect the - literally - MILLIONS of tourists who visit this island every year.

It is worth remembering that it is only the very few people who have experienced a problem who tell the world by means of these sites. The 99.999% who enjoyed their trouble free stay here don't bother to report the fact !

Unfortunately sometimes a problem can occur because normal common sense precautions have not been taken - though I am not in any way offering that as an excuse, or saying that it can't happen. I dare say that homes get burglarized and laptops get stolen from cars etc. even where YOU live.

Princess Heights is also there. Lovely suites with balconies, nice crew and I loved the view. It was pre-Westin but I'm sure it is lovely still. We have stayed at Dawn Beach three times and were well satisfied. Certainly rent a car but DO NOT RENT THRIFTY. There have been some issues. We are staying at the Princess for 10 days starting the 13th of February. I'll post when I get back. The last time we were at Mr. Busby's the mosquito's were thick. You can get repellent anywhere look for DEET in the ingredients.
