Suggest you check out www.vrbo.com. If you are looking for a place with a kitchen most of the resorts have suites with kitchens. Good source of Provo info is www.wherewhenhow.com the on line magazine of the Turks and Caicos

Think twice before renting a villa in Turks and Caicos. Have been there 4 times and on the third trip made the mistake of renting a villa. We had a break in on Thankgiving night. We found out the next day that a number of private houses/villas were also robbed. For us, the problem was that the owners lived in the US and we were not able to get in touch with the "Management Company" at the time of the break. You really don't have alot of recourse if you rent privately as opposed to staying in a condo at a property that has staff on site and the option of moving you if there is a problem. Love the island even if it is alot busier than our first visit 11 years ago. We were back two years ago and still recommend it to people. We love Ocean Club - that would be my recommendation.

Dinga,
Its unfortunate you had that happen, I've been renting villas in Turks & Caicos, throughout the Caribbean and worldwide for years...and have never had a break in occur. The only problem we had once was locking ourselves out of an Italian villa, but that was entirely our fault Villa renting is not for everyone, you must be independent and able to deal with situations in a foreign place on your own. For recourse, I'm not sure what you mean by getting a hold of the owners or management company at time of break in....I hope you called the police instead. The owners aren't responsible unless there's something about the property that contributed to it, such as a broken lock. If they've taken reasonable measures to secure it there's really nothing you can do, it happens. If you felt unsafe I hope you went to a hotel that night and notified the management company the next morning and requested a move. If you use a rental company with numerous rentals they would have the ability to do that, renting direct through an individual no.
I'm curious to know where the villa you rented was. I've always rented in the Taylor Bay area. Villa Stonecrest is our favorite.

Malibu Lisa,
The best company on Provo for villa rentals is TC Safari, their website is www.tcsafari.tc

Traveler 863, just going through some old posts and saw you had posted after me and I never saw it. We did contact the police after the break. They were actually sort of rude and less than helpful until they were informed that two people in our group were police officers. After that, they couldn't have been more helpful. When the management company didn't answer the phone, it was the police that tracked them down and had someone touch base with us the next day. The management company when told that we were leaving the property that night told us we couldn't - that we would be responsible if something happened. Again the police intervened and made it clear that it was the management companies responsibility. Luckily, the night manager at the then new Comfort Suites helped move us into three rooms for the night. The next day we moved to the Ocean Club which is where we had wanted to stay initially. We didn't because they wanted full price for an infant. When we explained our situation, they did not charge for the infant. The Villa was located directly on Grace Bay near Coral Gardens.
