Vieques or Culebra?

I can tell these are two small islands with minimal activity. I wanted to get one last opinion on which island people prefer and why. I think they both must have nice beaches. I see they both have a good place to stay (W and Club Seabourne). We expect this three days to be our quietest...so which is better for a family?

I've visited both, but by sailboat, so my perspective is limited. However, if I had to choose one of the two for a land-based visit, it would be Culebra. I found the beaches to be prettier and the vibe to be slightly more laid back than Vieques.

Cuelebra is beautiful!! The beach is amazing! But be careful bc there is no shade and you can sun burn easily. Also the town seems run down. also if you're taking the boat over there from San Juan or whenever make sure you take a blanket its so cold on that boat it's terrible. I went in 2003 and remember that experience. The AC is on extra high. I passed by on my way to cuelebra but was not able to visit.

I'm sure I'm too late, but I always have to vouch for Vieques. There's more to explore. There are more beaches and snorkeling areas. And overall, the food options are far better (and I'm not referring to the W). Plus Malecon House is one of the best bed and breakfasts in the Caribbean.

I've never been to Vieques; hear there's more activity, but if you want a quiet, rustic, because it is rustic then Culebra. The beaches are the best. Don't miss Flamenco Beach for gorgeous blue water and white sand. Tamarindo Grande was fabulous for swimming with the sea turtles. Yes the town is run down, but there is charm. I see yachts anchored there all the time. Lots of americans live there; just wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle. We go snorkeling, kayaking, boating, bike riding and of course music at Mamacitas on Friday and Saturday nights. Check my name Wanda1 and you will see my recommendations there.

Wanda1- do you live in Culebra now? I had the impression at first that you were a tourist but this post sounds like you are a resident- just curious.

No I live in Houston, Texas. I travel to Rincon once a year ever since I discovered it. I try to go to Culebra, even if it's for one day, every time I go to Rincon. I'm a city girl at heart, but enjoy the peaceful island. I couldn't live there, it's too small for me. But love to visit.

Thanks for the feedback. I chose Vieques but am pondering if it's possible to see Culebra for a day trip? We'll see....

Both the places have their own significance. Culebra is quieter and has cleaner beaches. On other side, Vieques has lot more options for accommodations and food. It is your choice.
