Vieques Hotels with children

I am hoping to visit Vieques but seem to be having a problem finding a nice hotel that welcomes children. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked into renting a villa instead of a hotel? There are many to choose from, they are more private, you can cook some of your own meals. And many have a pool.

Try Hectors by the Sea. Great reviews on Tripadvisor and you have the option of cooking or at least eating breakfast in the casitas.

When are you traveling? My husband and I visited Vieques this past May with one of his granddaughters, and we stayed at Hacienda Tamarindo. Anyone under 15 is not allowed in high season there, but they were quite pleased to welcome the granddaughter in low season. Loved the Hacienda Tamarindo and would highly recommend it.

Traveling in April. I guess that would be considered high season? Have seen many good reviews about both Hector's and Hacienda Tamarindo but with the latter the children's ages seemed to be an issue. That seems to be the case at many of the options on the island. Children's ages range from 7-17...is Vieques a good location for us? Not sure we want to go the villa route although I can see the advantages. Thanks for your help!

Hmmm...depending on when in April you travel, you could hit the low season for most hotels/inns, which begins usually around April 15 or after Easter, whichever is later.

In being as objective as possible, would you consider your younger children generally more boisterous or quiet? Well-behaved in adult company or perhaps more full of youthful antics? Using your own best judgment of whether your younger kids would be appropriately behaved in a primarily adult setting, you could possibly ask some of the smaller establishments whether they could bend the rules in your case for a high season visit.

We originally planned to vacation in Vieques in January with our 13 year old granddaughter and asked special permission from the owners of Hacienda Tamarindo if they would consider letting us stay there with her--she's generally very quiet and conscious of her surroundings, not to mention she looks like she could pass for 18, so we didn't feel guilty pleading her case. The owners readily agreed to it.

Here's a vote for renting a villa. While we seem to gravitate towards staying in a hotel, whenever we rent we invariably think we get so much more for our money. I'm certain you can find a villa in Vieques which makes all of you happy.

Have you checked out the enchanted-isle website? There is so much info about the island. There are a lot of rental villas on the website, browse them and you may start to change your mind about staying in a villa!!
Vieques IS a wonderful place to bring children, but keep in mind you must be your own activity director and make your own fun.
The beaches are often nearly deserted, and many to choose from.
You can explore the old Navy lands, more beaches, horses (many) roaming.
Some good snorkeling, and lastly, make sure to see the Bio Bay!
Have fun.

Ok...so it seems that a villa is the way to go. I've checked out a few that could work for us and was wondering if anyone has stayed at any of these. Villa Nyita Linda in Monte Santo Playa, Pelican Villas in Bravos de Boston and Crane Garden in Pilon.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi, We stayed at Villa Nyita Linda last year. We split our time between Linda and Casa Ladera. They are very close to each other. Linda is close to the beach while Ladera is a short walk (same beach). We stayed in the upper unit at both places. Nothing to complain about with either one. If we had to choose, it would be Ladera because we felt the two gals that own it were very helpful as they were usually around working during the day, better condition, nicer pool, and we rented a 4 wheel drive from them. We are going again in January and renting casa del Marullo just because we wanted something different. If you have any questions about either one, just ask. Owa

Did you figure out your hopper flight to the island. I remember you were concerned about arriving in SJU too late to catch the flight Vieques.

We were going to go to Vieques in May until we decided to go to the BVI instead. Now we are going to go to Vieques and Culebra in January. Since it is high season, Northwest Airlines flies direct from Minneapolis to SJU with a 3PM arrival. No problem now. The lesson here is to just change destinations to get the right time slot. Just kidding, but it sure was a nice solution. Two trips instead of one. Thanks for asking, Owa

We are staying at Rhymer's, though not fancy by any means (from what I've read) it is still recommended by lots of people for it's eally laid back atmosphere. Also 2 nights on Jost at Perfect Pineapple (thanks to those who recommended) It is owned by Foxy Callwood's son!
Usually on our trips I push to keep going and see "everything". This time we are just going to hang out and relax. (and my husband will appreciate). We will be in Vieques in January to spend a few months for my husband's business, so if I can answer any question you may have...

I'm staying at Hix Island House on Vieques christmas thru new years. I'm a big geek about spiders. Not lizards, snakes, moths, etc., only spiders. Should I be concerned? Hix Island House seemed to be warning me against lizards mainly, which I like. I've camped in Joshua Tree, will it be riskier than that for spider appearances? Thanks thanks thanks

Hanger, I have only seen one spider in the few months I spent on Vieques last year. It was in the ground and I dug it up while digging a hole for a shrub!! Otherwise nothing.
Lots of geckos, mosquitos early am and evening. I gave up all my nice girly body washes and sprays! (that attracts bugs).
Owa-We will be back in Vieques on Jan. 8th to stay til May. Get in touch if you want to meet up for a drink.

Hanger- try you best to lose the bug thing. You are spending way too much energy worrying aobut it when you can be searching photos of Vieques beaches and horses, etc.
I do understand, I hate snakes and almost stepped on one the other day at work and now walk gingerly to the bathrooms. But someone once assured me that there were no snakes in the islands that I have visited (VI & VQS).
Though someone mentioned the Puerto Rican Boa in the rainforest...I am just going toput it out of my head.

I have not been on island during Christmas, before in November, and after, mid Jan., nothing different bug-wise. Please just put it out of your head!
