Varadero

Am contemplating trip late April, 2 adults somewhat reserved,need safe locale, would like to sight see and walk along beaches etc.
Is Varadero a relatively safe area to vacation? Is it better to go all-inclusive or wing it, my travel agent recommends "Breeze" "a-i", but not sure if we would prefer (too many couples?). Also recommendations on Hotels? nothing fancy but clean, would not be spending time in room anyway.

    Yes I would say Varadero is very safe. I went walking alone at any time of day or evening and was never bothered. We did the all inclusive even though we usually travel much more independently. There are many pluses to this, the first being you will certainly never go hungry or without a drink and we found you can meet many people from all over the world. The hotel we were at was called The Sunbeach and is rated as a 3 star. Very clean, plain food but lots of it, wonderful bread and fruits and a very nice staff. The beach is made for walking and we went in both directions as far as we could and still make it back to the hotel. The newer resorts are quite aways out on the spit but we were right down in the town and loved it. Personaly I would want to stay nearer the town area if exploring is what you want. There is a lovely park that was part of the Bacardi estate at one time and lots of shops and and a very nice church to see. At the Sunbeach I will say it was mostly couples but there were many groups of men or women traveling to gether. If safty is your main issue then I would say this is the place for you.
