We need a spot to vacation in late march/April with our 4 year old that is not primarily geared for children & teens. We love spending the day with her and would also like the option of a kids camp for part of the day as well as experienced hotel babysitters for an evening or two out (think Four Seasons without the $1,000/night pricetag). The concern with some of the resorts I have previewed is that we will be cast off to a part of a resort that is loaded with kids and never get any relaxation & quiet. We considered Caneel Bay St John, but understand the rooms are old and outdated--nice rooms/linens etc. and good service are an absolute must. Open to all inclusive and any carribean island that is safe with beautiful beaches and activities. Budget $600.00-$800.00/night (even less is great of course). Thanks!

We go to grand cayman with two boys under five and have been going to the same place since they were babies. There is a babysitting service on the island that we always use that comes to the condo and will do whatever you want...take the kids out or stay in. We spend the mornings together at the beach then we have the sitter feed the kids lunch and nap them while we relax at the beach and are free to pop in and out of the condo. We have always been happy with the care and our boys are very active. Staying in a condo is peaceful and convenient with the kitchen and grills. We stayed at the Regal Beach Club condos and used Capable Caregivers for childcare which the condo staff originally set up for us years ago. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info--one item I should have mentioned is that a hotel/resort setting will work better than a condo so I can avoid cooking/cleaning at all costs!! Thanks!

look at the Bucaneer in St. Croix; my 5 year old loved the Kids Camp, the women at the front desk babysat for us on two nights (couldn't have been nicer or more responsible) and they have Family Cottages--two separate rooms connected by a bathroom which is a difficult arrangement to find in the Caribbean. It is in your price range and they have kid-friendly food!

St. Croix if haven't been is a very laid-back place with good restaurants (some for just you guys and some that would work with your daughter.

I am in your camp as far as resorts go--when we rent houses, certain aspects of it seem too much like home!

As far as a luxury vacation that pleases both kids and adults, no one does it better than the Four Seasons, in my opinion. We have been to both FS Aviara in San Diego and FS Punta Mita in Mexico and they are great in terms of wonderful kids programs and lots of rest and relaxation for the parents. The FS Punta Mita would be in your price range, I encourage you to check it out. We have not found many other good options out there for what you are looking for, we have tried many Hyatt and Marriott resorts and sometimes the kids program is not active every day and they don't have babysitters, which has left us feeling like we didn't get quite enough adult time. The other wonderful option for this type of vacation is a cruise if you are interested -- our kids loved going to the kids club and even having dinner there and then sometimes joining us for dessert at the late seating, it was the best combination we have found to make everyone happy.
