If the USD is now official currency in Curacao and Bonaire, this means that I won't have any foreign transaction fees with my reg credit cards, is that correct? (I'd love to use my regular CC card to get the miles....)
Also, my bf can't dive due to a recent surgery and I was wondering what diving alone would be like since most people seem to rent a truck, tanks, and go out on their own. This won't be an option for me -- are there dive shops where a DM will take me out?
tia!

The US dollar is the official currency of Bonaire, but, not Curacao. Curacao's currency is the Netherlands Antillian Guilder.
I don't know the answer about foreign transaction fees, good question. I just use a Capitol One credit card when I travel, it doesn't charge them.
Yes, you can find numerous dive shops who will be glad to take you out diving.
Enjoy Bonaire, it's a really fun island.
You will still have foreign transaction fees if you use your credit card in Bonaire. The fees are not about the exchange but rather about using your card abroad. Stupid, yes, but the policy of most banks except for Capital One and a few other affinity cards.
wow, thanks for the heads up -- I normally use capital one abroad and will do so again. Sucks, as I wouldn't mind getting the 1000+ miles.
Jean H -- that's so interesting about the Guilder -- I guess it's still produced for colonial territories since Netherlands using the Euro? Are there indigenous peoples or descendants of slaves on Bonaire and Curacao?
