Our family will be in T&C at the Beaches resort next week. We have Verizon cell service and have been told phones will work there. I keep reading conflicting reports. My husband's blackberry is a global phone but the rest of us have reg. phones.
Has anyone had luck recently?
Thanks!

no matter what they tell you, I have never seen Verizon work, it's not in sync with Lime, the phone providers there. on the strange off chance your husband's works, it will be grossly expensive. (Again, I've never seen Verizon work down there, mostly AT&T.)

Hmmm... interesting. A company called Islandcom supposedly supports both CDMA and GSM technology. CDMA is the technology used for "regular" Verizon wireless phones. VZW rates are $1.99/min.
Blamona - Have you heard of this new company Islandcom?

I have heard of Island.com, and it is possible someone with Verizon blackberry GSM global phone might work. I have yet to hear that it does though. Since the hurricanes in Sept., alot of things with the phones don't work like they are suppose to, before then, Verizon still wasn't working. since Lime took over, Digicel the "other" popular provider has taken a hit.
Mymoosie: you're actually a lot smarter about phones in T&C and have always given good advice. ;-)
PS Just because I've never heard of it working for someone, doesn't mean it doesn't, but in T&C I would not be surprised if it doesn't, I wouldn't count on it, but if it does work, bonus!

If it's the Blackberry 8830 World Edition, it's "supposed" to work with the Digicel network. The Blackberry Storm is quadband so it's supposed to work with either Lime or Digicel network. "Supposed" to being the operative word. ;-) As blamona said, haven't heard of anyone having much success.
Someone try their Verizon phone next time they go and report back to us. I'm a curious .
One thought on the global Blackberry, check to make sure there is a SIM card. It could be that if you don't have the Global plan that there is no SIM card on the phone. That could explain why it doesn't work.
Thanks blamona! That's interesting about Lime's success. They did a marketing blitz all over the caribbean that's for sure and had good success as a result.

I have Verizon Wireless. My LG phone was not a global phone, so I had to borrow a global phone from Verizon Wireless last July. It worked very well, no problems. It has to be a global phone with GMS technology and you have to be sure that Verizon has international dialing on your phone.
It was $2.49 plus taxes per minute.
I have been told that the Blackberry Storm that I now have will work fine in Provo. Not all Blackberry phones are global, check with Verizon.
