Turks and Caicos Hotel suggestions?

My husband and I are planning (about ) a 5 day getaway in July without our children -- first solo vacation in a long time. We have been debating about where to go -- looking for short flight from NYC, beautiful beaches. We have decided on Turks. There are a lot of hotels on Grace Bay, but many above our budget (Veranda, Regent Palms, etc). I have come across a few that are more reasonable and would like your suggestions -- Royal West Indies? I heard that it is adjacent to Club Med and gets the noise from there especially at night -- not very appealing to me. Alexandra resort? Haven't read a lot about that resort. Ocean Club/West -- old facility, old rooms? We want a more modern, luxurious (within our budget) and service oriented hotel. Please let me know if you are familiar with these hotels or if you can recommend any others. Thanks.

Within your budget of the ones mentioned, Alexandria is the newest most modern, great onsite restaurant and many walkable, a bit older but in the same area is "The Sands", very nice mid range resort. R West Indies and being near Club Med, I doubt you'd hear much!

First off, there's not a bad place to stay in Provo, all properties are clean and well maintained.

they do have different personalities, or are good for certian things, like 1 is closer to snorkel, 1 is closer to better restaurants, 1 is closer to supermarket, etc.

All mid range properties are fairly equal. Most mid-range properties don't provide many services, they are more self catering. For services you have to go to more expensive properties.

July should have specials, that will help.

Not many services, but includes continental breakfast:

Villa Del Mar. Actually ultra luxurious. Tommy Bahama furniture. It's behind Grace Bay Club, so not on the beach, but still has lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach.

From your list, if i had to rate, Alex is the most modern, but some rooms have queen size, not king size beds. They have the best mattresses though.

RWI is a great bang for buck. I've never noticed Club Med once in the rooms or at the pool, so don't know if it's just me or not a factor.

OCs are good bargains. It's still clean and landscape is good.

Regardless of which you choose, I highly recommend a car. Easy driving, but really to get to best restaurants, which are scattered all over, car costs less than taxi. Plus you can explore the other terrific beaches and stuff on the island.

The couple of times I have been to the Turks and Caicos I have either stayed at the Alexandra Resort or rented a condo( which they now offer at the Alexandra). The Resort is right on the beach, has great spa treatments and the Mango Reef Restaurant is delicious. The Alexandra has the perfect combination of relaxation and activities depending on your mood with friendly staff and great accommodations.
