turks and caicos
Has anyone been to the turks and caicos recently? I have read that there is alot of construction everywhere, next door to every place. We were considering Royal West Indies. The constant sound of construction must put a damper on the peace and serenity. Any opinions. Want a 2 bedroom oceanfront, with swimmable, snorkeling beach, tennis and sailing. How's the weather in June? Thanks.

We just got back from a week at Royal West Indies. There is a lot of construction along the beach. The nearest to RWI is next to Ocean Club West. You can see the construction from the RWI beach, and if you listen very carefully you can sometimes hear the hammers, but its not a problem at RWI.
There isn't a lot of good snorkeling this far north on the beach. The nearest really good beach snorkeling would probably be in front of the Coral Gardens.
The beach is gorgeous...
The resort is great. We're trying to figure out how soon we can get back.
I'm going to check out Howard's trip report. His postings were very helpful to us before our trip. Let me know if you have any questions.

Meta,
We walked around OCW a little, and it looks like a nice resort. The problem with it right now is that there is construction on both sides of it. If you're an early riser like we are it might not be a problem, but we saw them starting work as early as 7 am. Once you move up or down the beach to RWI or Grace Point the sound of the construction tapers off quickly. I've never been in a room at the OCW so I don't know how quiet they are, but I'd have to suspect that you'd hear the construction.
On the other hand, they don't work at night, and during the day you could spend your time at the other Ocean Club resort. I also suspect, that unless you're trying to sleep during the day, that the construction sounds would fade into the background. There seemed to be a lot of people at the resort when we walked around, and they all seemed to be having a good time.

I think the construction is something to consider, but I don't think it would be that big an issue. Its not like you're going to get silence at the beach or the pool.
The construction is also not frame lumber, but cinder block & concrete, so there really isn't a lot of hammering going on. At least we didn't hear much.
I've read some recent messages from people who were there and they said that the construction noises were not a problem.
Have a great trip!

I just got back from Provo last night. I met some people staying at RWI. They really liked it but said they wouldn't stay there again because Club Med is next to it and they said they constantly heard their loud speaker and other noises.

Gotta say I'm surprised... We heard the music from 5-6 and that was all.
On the other hand, we had studio accomodations where the bedroom/living room is towards the resort. The 1 bedroom suites have the bedroom at the back which would mean in some of the buildings it would be towards Club Med.
Still, dining outdoors at the Mango Reef at night, we never heard a peep from Club Med except 5-6 pm.
We're right now making plans to return to RWI in the fall.
Hope you had a great trip... Where did you stay, and did you do any excursions you'd care to comment on?
