turks and caicos
We are thinking about a trip to the turks and caicos in June. We usually go to Anguilla but are thinking of trying something different. I was wondering if anyone knows how the two compare in dining? Like some nice restaurants with ocean views but also like local roadside places (chicken, ribs, fish, burgers, etc). It appears that the beaches are very similar. Also, if anyone has suggestions for hotels priced around the Windsong, Royal Indies or Ocean Club resorts. We will rent a car, so distance to restaurants in not a problem. Thanks for any advice.

Restaurants are great at both places, but I do give the edge to Anguilla. The settings of the restaurants in T&C are gorgeous though!
there are some local roadside places, most are In Blue Hills area, such as Da Conch Shack and Smokeys. Most of them are shacks on the beach. There are a couple more sprinkled in the tourist area, but you have to know how to find them.
www.WhereWhenHow.tc gives restaurants, menus, and websites if they have them.
Ocean Clubs seem a little dated, but they are a good value for the money. the bathrooms could use an overhall. RWI is a great "bang for the buck". Windsong is newer and has many upgraded features, such as granite counters and luxury bathrooms.
there are many deals to be had in all of the hotels in T&C, so with a better pricepoint it would be easier to make recommendations.
Anguilla is one of my favorite islands, but so is T&C!

I highly recommend a private villa!! The luxurious week went by far too quickly, but it was beyond relaxing and i'm happy my husband and i decided on it. We also had concerns about the food, as i have a sensitive stomach, and we had our concierge set up a private chef in our villa for 2 of the nights, and ate at the restaurants the other days. i was browsing through some T&C things, as i want to upload some of my photos, and found this great article on laid-back vacation ideas: http://www.tranquilityvacationstci.c...and-caicos.php that we actually did while we were there! My husband wnet shark fishing and i took a pilates class! Enjoy!

We have been to both islands MANY times. LOVE Turks & Caicos better. Great restaurants, check out--Coco Bistro, Bay Bistro, O'Soleil, Grace's Cottage, Mango Reef to name a few.
For resorts we like the Sands but, LOVE The Somerset( more upscale and $$$)

I am a huge fan of both islands. I too give the edge on food to anguilla, but the restaurants at T&C are very very good as well. T&C (Provo) struck me as more developed than Anguilla- which isn't a bad thing. It's not like T&C is aruba- its just that we found anguilla to be less developed. I think you will love T&C.

Turks and Caicos is a gem! Try Coco Bistro and Bay Bistro resraurants. Also the Atlantic Grill... Check out the West Bay Club ( Atlantic Grill is on the property). New property with great service and plush amenities (bathrobes, marrble floors, incredible ocean views with floor to ceiling windows....). They are running some great deals now. If you want romance and privacy, it's a steal! Just there for our 2nd time a few months ago. LOVE IT!!!

Thanks to everyone that responded. I think we will give Turks and Caicos a try. I was a little worried at first because Fodors only gave them two stars for food whereas it gave Anguilla four stars but it looks as if most of you think it's pretty close to Anguilla. For those of you that are knowledgeable of both islands, I was wondering if you could suggest some restaurants that are similar to Gwen's, B&D's or Smokey's on Anguilla. After talking with the other couple to see where we stand with price and amenities I'll check back and get suggestions for hotels. Thanks again.
