Tubing on the White River

We're on a Carribean cruise this October that
stops in Ocho Rio for a day. As we've
"done" Dunns River Falls and plantations
on a previous trip, thought tubing on the
White River looks like fun.
Has anyone done this before? Is it worth it?
It's offered as a shore excursion by NCL,
and I'd like some feed-back before booking
the trip.
Many thanks. Wolfye

Been there, done that and would def. recommend it. FYI Mountain biking or horseback riding (in the mountains) is fun too.

Like rafting on the Martha Brae, tubing on White River is on a gentle stream and a pleasant way to spend a day. You will pay more booking your shore excursions thru the cruiseship than hiring a private guide. Depending on
how much time you have onshore, you might want to contact Carolyn Barrett of Barrett Adventures (http://www.barrettadventures.com) and consider a day going to Firefly/Noel
Coward's estate, the Old Tavern Coffee
plantation and Port Antonio where bamboo river rafting on the Rio Grande is the best on island.

If you want to do the White River tubing, you can also book it directly with Chukka Caribbean, but I'm not sure you'll end up saving anything once you pay for the cab to the Chukka facility outside Ocho Rios. It's a nice trip.

Thanks so much for replying. I'll
probably book thru NCL, if for no other
reason than it's the most hassle free
and probably about the same price.
Is there any white water rafting near
Ocho Rios? We've done the Chatooga in
SC and had a fabulous time. Just
curious.

Depending on water levels, there's class 2-5 white water at Great Gorge, outside MoBay (2-2.5 hours from Ochie, depending on traffic/roads). White River is about 30 min.max from Ochie
but nothing in Ochie area for the more adventurous.
