Trip to St Bart

My husband and I are planning a trip to Le Toiny in May or June.I've never been there so would like some suggestions on the hotel&places to eat. I also need some travel advice. We will be flying out of Atlanta,Ga.Our choices are: fly to StThomas and get a flight to St Barts or fly to San Juan and get a flight, or fly to miami take a flight on american to st martin and then take a 10 min. flight to St Bart-HELP!<BR>

Probably your best bet will be Miami-St.Martin-St.Barts for the flight. If you're flying Winward Island Airways out of St. Martin, they're pretty reliable. Keep in mind there are no after-dusk flights, since St.Barth has no runway lights.<BR><BR>As for Le Toiny you couldn't have picked a better hotel - probably the best on the island. There are lots of good restaurants on the island, including at Le Toiny. Some other hotels with very good restaurants are the Carl Gustaf, the Isle de France, the Christopher, and El Sereno (Bou-Bou's restaurant). There are many other good restaurants - pick up a copy of the Ti Gourmet booklet when you get to Le Toiny for a quick rundown of the various restaurants.

I agree with Paul that the MIA to SXM route is a better bet. It would probably make for the shortest day, too.<BR><BR>Also, my flights are delayed quite often thru SJU, whereas it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem at MIA (as much as I dislike that airport).<BR><BR>I can't comment on the airport on St. Thomas since I've never been there.<BR><BR>Have fun. St. Barth's is a beautiful island.<BR><BR>

We alo live in Atlanta and go to St. Barth's every weekend. Do not go to sxm to St Barth's. That will put you on 3 airplane and take the longest. Also, SXM is the worst airport. Fly to st thomas and take air st. thomas to st barth's. air st thomas has 4 passenger cessna's so it's a small plane but reliable.. ask for yan, one of the pilots. He's the best and very french. have fun!

Hmmmm.....how much more does that private charter cost from St. Thomas, over a commercial flight? I know that when we go private charter from the next island over, it's $300 for 1-4 persons.<BR><BR>

Misty,<BR>We go to SBH twice a year and usually go Toronto-San Juan-St Maarten-St. Barths. If we can get a direct Toronto-St Maarten we do, but it's rare. We have flown Toronto-Antigua direct then chartered a plane for the 40 minute flight but it cost $1,500! (That was quite a few years ago).<BR><BR>Make sure you check out www.cieux.com/phorum/index.php which is a great travel forum with a ton of very specific SBH info.<BR><BR>Toiny is a FABULOUS property. You can't go wrong here. Make sure you rent a Smart or a Suzuki to get around, which is great fun.<BR><BR>There are many, many restaurants to recommend and if you go to "cieux" you'll find some detailed reviews. If you want to email me directly, I can share some of my favorites if you give me a bit more info about your preferences.<BR><BR>Have a great time in paradise!

I've always read don't go through St. Thomas because Air St. Thomas is not reliable. Don't know the truth because we've always flown through St. Martin.<BR><BR>San Juan customs is certainly easier than going through Miami customs due to 9/11 and I think next trip, we'll go the San Juan route again.

We have never had a problem on Air St Thomas. Remember Air Guadalupe from San Juan was the one that crashed a year or so ago.

xyy:<BR><BR>I just assuemd that Air St. Thomas was a charter company since most 4-6 seater planes that I fly around here are. <BR><BR>Sometimes even though they have a corporate name, they are still very expensive and fly only charter flights.<BR>

it's always nice to know your facts before you give information to people to rely on.atlanta to st thomas to st barths is the fastest way, st thomas is a smaller airport compared to san juan and if your atlanta to st thomas flight is late, air st thomas will wait for you since your probably the only one onthe plane anyway.

Latest quote from Air St.Thomas to St. Barth's I believe is $115 one way w/o tax with two flights either way each day. They do offer personal charters as well. See airstthomas.com

We got our tickets roundtrip for $100 each from St. Maarten through WIMCO. Give them a call. We flew WinAir - they have a flight out of SMX every hour. Something to keep in mind: you cannot fly into St. Barths after 5:00 so plan accordingly... or get stuck in SMX!

We learned are lesson the first time we went to St Barth's. We flew atlanta to miami to sxm to St barth's. The plane(Winnair) was supposed to leave sxm at 3:30. Just a 10 minute flight. Well, by the time the plane landed in sxm to take us to st barth's, it was so late we had to spend the night in sxm.. How depressing. So even though it's a ten minute flight, it doesn't mean you'll get there. Will never fly winnair again.

Just for the record:<BR><BR>I fly WinAir regularly and can tell you that although they've been known over the years for being notoriously late, they have quite a good on-time record now. Wonders never cease.<BR>

Thank you for the information. to [email protected] That does seem the best <BR>way through St. Thomas. I was wondering if there is a time difference in st. Bart. Any suggestions on places to eat?<BR>Places that we should not miss. Neat<BR>places. I'd rather stay in the moderate price range-unless its something we should not miss. What about dress code?Thank you again. We are going the end of June.

our favorite restaurant is Francois Plantation tamarin, maya's and au port are also very good. We have been disappointed with le sapotillier(spelled wrong)latelt. Every onr raves about the restaurant at le toiny but we've gone several times for lunch and dinner and it's just been ok. There is a great little coffee shop in Gustavia that's great for lunch. It's always packed.I don't know the name but you'll find it. Dress is very casual but very chic. The french look good in anything.
