Saw your message. We are going to Cuba tomorrow for
a week. All the reports we have are that it is a
very interesting place to visit, providing you leave
your views about what is right/wrong with their
political system at home. It's different, that's all.
I'll send you an email with my impressions on my
return.

Spent a week in Varadero recently. Is the place to go for relaxing beach activity. Is not a place where you explore various restaurants (normally eat in your hotel on all-inclusive or partially-inclusive package) or night life (not the place to go if you're looking for Hard Rock Cafes and the like). Quality of sand, water for swimming, water for drinking, friendliness of people is great. Heard from people who went to Havana for day-trip, as well as outlying Cuban areas. Nobody I talked to was overly impressed. They market Che and Hemingway, as historical 'landmarks'.
Tip if travelling to Cuba: local people have hard time getting vitamins, medicines (pain killers, for example). Take lots of thiis kind of stuff, as well as hotel shampoos you've saved up and give as gifts/tips, etc. Greatly appreciated by locals.
