Trip reports wanted!

If anyone has traveled recently and would be kind enough to post a trip report, that would be great!

Personally, I am most interested in hearing about Antigua, Grand Cayman and the BVIs.

I honeymooned in Antigua last year. This was our first trip to the Caribbean and I must say it was like heaven on earth!

We stayed at Sandals Antigua. We really enjoyed the resort and would recommend it. The beach was great with powder-like sand, aquamarine water and incredible sunsets. The landscaping at the resort was very lush/tropical and well kept. The resort had a village feel to it and was very laid back and romantic.

We stayed in one of their concierge leve suites (Grand Lux Beachfront). It was a great location, you wake up and the first thing you see is the ocean. The room was not large, although very comfortable. But who's in the room that often anyways except to shower/change and sleep (well we may have more than others, being our honeymoon and all!).

The food was good, although nothing spectacular. There are 4 restaurants and the Southwestern (OK Corral) and Japanese (Kimonos) were our favorites. We were also married there, so I have to say that our candlelight dinner they did for us was the best (Steak and Lobster tails - delicious!).

There was plenty of things to do if you were tired of vegging on the beach or around the pool. The watersports staff was very helpful. We enjoyed sailing (catamarans) the most, and I water skied a few times. There is also entertainment every night which usually consists of a steel drum band and the piano bar and disco would open once the band was finished.

Overall, we really enjoyed Antigua. The locals were great and very friendly. We had the perfect honeymoon / wedding at the resort and would recommend it to anyone.

She goes by the name "Tiffany" or "Islander" and has probably posted about her "weddingmoon" at Sandals Antigua at least a thousand times. And it is the same thing over and over again, said the same way over and over again!! Yes, Reporter, we have heard quite enough already about the "laid back and romantic feel" of Sandals Antigua. Just quit already!! Damn!!

Ok, let me say that I have no idea who this islander person is. I just found this web site a week or two ago, and I was enjoying it until everyone started getting rude. It's unbelieveable the things people say on here! It's like if you can't afford to stay anywhere but the upscale resorts and have been everywhere in the Caribbean there is to go, they don't want to hear from you. Get OVER it! This is a message board. People are free to say what we want when we want.

Cooper asked for trip reports about Grand Cayman, BVIs, and ANTIGUA. I visited Antigua last year. So I posted a report. So I stayed at Sandals -although it may not be your taste, we really enjoyed it. It was our first time in the Caribbean, and in my opinion it was a good start.

It's funny how you talk about this "islander" person....I have not seen a post from "islander" since I've been here. She/he must not be that annoying, or else I would have noticed it.

Tired - get over yourself!
Reporter: pay no attention to that basher he/she always puts people down who rave about there honeymoon/weddings in the islands. Must be a very jealous person.

I, personally love to hear people's experiences whether they respond once or a thousand times.

If they get tired of reading. STOP reading.

People like that give Fodor's a disservice....

Thank you get over it. I come to this board to read about other peoples experiences too. After reading for a while, you start to hear many opinions about the places you would like to visit. It helps you to get a feel of what the place is like and whether you should visit or not. If the majority of people say a certain resort has bad rooms/service/food etc., then you no not to waste your money.

Cooper asks for a trip report, and I give mine. All I get is a rude comment about some "islander" and about how they are sick of hearing about Sandals Antigua. I don't understand that. I've heard about Cap Juluca a MILLION times, I don't see anyone complaining about that!

It seems as though since I haven't had the privilege of staying anywhere else, I shouldn't post about my experience. It's not like I answered a question about Aruba with a trip report about Antigua!!!

Cooper,

Grand Cayman is great, the BVI's are wonderful. If you do a search with either of the above on this bb, you will find tons of input on either.

Where you'd like to stay depends on your wants and budget. Gorgeous beaches for both of the above, however, I must admit that GC seems like a little extension of FLA, and can be pricey, especially in high season. It's very Americanized, compared to other places in the Carib. But, 7MB is pretty, and hubby loves to dive/snorkel, and if you enjoy that, you'll have a great time.

Hope this helps.

Antigua - Turned out to be kind of a beach paradise. Good restaurants. Not a lot of cheese and other dairy foods were offered. Shopping was available in malls as well as by vendors. We enjoyed strolling and found it to be a very romantic island. When my luggage was lost, I was rather frantic as I stupidly packed my contact solution in that luggage. They got it to the hotel at 11pm for me intead of the next day as was the norm.
GC was very americanized. Not as much activity. Great food!!! Waitstaff tends to be canadian so they bustle a bit more. Reservations are recommended as some restaurants can become a bit busy. Not as welcoming of an island. The guy sitting next to you, even though he is probably wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, tends to seem offended if you attempt to start up a conversation.
Going to the BVI's next.

I loved GC. Going back again to take the kids. I didn't find it snobby at all. Highlights were a boat trip with Capt. Marvin to snorkle at two reefs and swim with the stingrays, hanging out on the beach and snorkling whenever we felt like it, good food, watching the cruise ships leave and knowing we were staying and buying nice watches for each other.

BVI is the ticket! Get to Virgin Gorda you will not be dissapointed. Rent a jeep and stay at the Old Yard in,no need to stay on the water, you cannot see it at night! Play at the Baths, explore all the nooks and crannies, some of the best snorkling in the Carrib!

Spent Christmas in Cozumel with two adult daughters. Paradisus All-Inclusive. Food terrible. Asked for 3-person suite, got a room, 2 dble beds & a cot. Peculiar smell in room, could not unpack clothes (smell) ! Checked nearby hotels, same odor. Several good restaurants in town. Beach very nice. Won't go back.
