Trip report from Trinidad.

Hello,

Just wanted to share our trip experience with any one taking a trip over to Trinidad.
It was fantastic. My wife and I stayed at a very lovely guest house named Orchard View bed and breakfast and we had a blast at this place and with the owners. We really enjoyed our stay with them and they have an exceptionally clean place and our room was just perfect and comfortable in every way.

They took us to many interesting places. To name a few that any visitor to Trinidad should visit, the Asa Wright nature centre and the Wild fowl trust were very beautiful and picturesque places. Maracas bay was to die for, it was very enjoyable there. We had a variety of local dishes also. Our favorites were the doubles, the shark and bakes and the calaloo that we tried, were out of this world.

We really enjoyed our stay in Trinidad and although we were very sceptical about going, due to the many crime and bad reports about there, we really felt safe and had a great time and most of it was thanks to our good and kind hosts, who really went all out to ensure that we were comfortable and exposed to all the good that Trinidad has to offer.

So many thanks for a great stay in Trinidad

Hi retroact,

Can you by chance help me out with some more info on the place that you stayed at. I am traveling to Trinidad next month and looking for a safe accommodation there, that is not too expensive. I am also looking for a place that is not located in the city. Where is this place. Please reply. Thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to post a report. Trinidad is the one place in the Caribbean that I want to visit next. (I've been to several other islands). There is not much talk about it on this board. Wish there was because it sounds like such an interesting place. Please tell us more.

Thanks for posting your report. Like others here, Trinidad (and Tobago, too) holds a certain amount of mystique since we read and hear so few things about it. Would love to hear more details from you if you have the time to post.

I really thought twice about posting my trip report because I thought that I may have bored people to death by it, but I am glad that you all are interested by it.

Well to nattiepaul, the business card that the folks at Orchard View gave to me, has the following e-mail address, [email protected], and a website address at www.travel-library.com, where I think they have a few pictures posted there. You can contact them there for more information.

The other website that was mentioned above from jacketwatch, I guess you can try, I am not sure.

Well, we thought that there prices were pretty good. They also offer airport transfers, which was really good for us. They are not located in the city, they are a little way from the Airport, more in the countryside part.

Had we gone to a hotel and paid probably triple what we paid at Orchard View, we never would have had the fun and experience that we had there, with these two people who gave us a true taste of the culture that we could have only hoped to experience, had we gone through our trip without them, offering us such good suggestions and being so helpful to us throughout our stay in Trinidad.

I guess that I am 'babbling' on again, but we really did have a great time in Trinidad. If you would like me to let you know anything else about our trip, I would be more than happy to reply.

Hi,

Sorry I could not reply before now as I was away from my computer for a few days.

Well I am from Canada, so the weather, that nice hot weather was incredible on our skins. It was hot and shiny most of our (5) days there in Trinidad.
As I said we went to the places that I mentioned in my first post, which were all great. We also went to another beach Tuco or Toco, I cannot remember the correct name, this beach was a more calmer beach than Maracas bay was, much better for swimming without a lot of rough water and waves. We also went and saw some cultural places. We went to a monastery, we went to the temple on the sea, there was an amazing 80 ft statue of a Hindu God that we went to see, that was mind blowing.

As I said we ate a lot of interesting and tasty meals and basically this was our trip. We did not go out to any major nightlife, as we were pretty tired at the end of our very full and fun filled days.

Make Trinidad one of your have to see places, it is indeed a very different and free way of life over there.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Asa wright nature centre hotel? Is it worth staying up there or would it be better to stay elsewhere and just go up there for a visit?
