Trip Report Treasure Beach - a GREAT place in Jamaica

Jump to last reply

Just returned from Treasure Beach and had the best, most relaxing time. Having traveled all over Jamaica, we fell in love with the area and cannot wait to return. It is the perfect spot to immerse yourself in the culture and enjoy everything wonderful about Jamaica. We stayed at Jakes and thought it was just great. It was the perfect balance of things to do and just R and R. Everyone we encountered was friendly, accommodating and seemed to love not only their jobs but the island in which they live. The food at Jakes and Jack Sprats was also great and would recommend it! There were a few highlights to our trip and things you should do-other than just hanging out with Dougie at his bar which of course is just what you do most days.... First, go to Little Ochi for dinner or lunch. Hire Captain Sandre Myrie to take you via car or boat you can email him at or call him at 876.374.4266. Meeting Sandre was perfect and he gave us great recommendations for many things we did. He can take you to the Pelican Bar, Appleton, YS falls or just point you in the right direction for beaching it or live entertainment. His prices are reasonable and his knowledge of the island and his eagerness to accommodate is wonderful. Little Ochi's food did not disappoint! My husband had the jerk lobster and I had the garlic lobster and both we would go on record as saying was the best lobster we have ever had.

If you are looking for the perfect local thing and enjoy Jerk or whatever fish is fresh that day- you need to visit Chris at his new jerk stop/restaurant in Billy's Bay called Strikies. Chris, the owner just opened this great establishment 4 months ago and we heard about it from so many locals. I had grilled kingfish with a fantastic coconut cream sauce with a frozen rum drink...very good! Billy's bay is a short drive from Jakes and wort it. Just call ahead and make sure Chris is cooking that day...Also if you have a request and know what you want, just tell him a bit ahead of time and he will make you anything you wish. We met several people who were there night after night enjoying whatever Chris was cooking up. Had we of stayed longer, we would have been there again.

Shirley's Stem Bath/massage was also a highlight. Although Jakes does have a very nice spa, we were recommended to Shirleys and the entire experience was great. Shirley was full of personality and so interesting. Her little body has some very strong hands offering a great massage. The steam bath was so intoxicating from sweating and smelling all the herbs that she uses. We will look forward to seeing her again on our next trip. We were there for over an hour and a half each and picked up by her driver for a total of $65 (plus tip). A great deal!

One last notable highlight was a trip to Andrea's Steakhouse at MarBlu. We were looking for a recommendation for a nice evening out and read about Andrea's on the web. Andrea and her husband Axel could not have made our evening more enjoyable. Their love for people, the passion for food they prepared and the romantic setting was top notch and just perfect. After eating a lot of seafood in Jamaica, we looked forward to a great steak and the fillet mignon made by Axel with a creamy peppercorn sauce was exactly what we were looking for. They do serve seafood but we were looking for something different... we did have the seafood carpaccio as an appetizer and let me say it was delicious! MarBlu is a great boutique resort and we did see the rooms and they were all very nice. The pool deck and everything they have done with it is really wonderful!

We are already looking forward to our next visit to Treasure Beach, so many things to do or just nothing at all...Its all good!
