I've seen posts froom last year about using CI currency vs US, but wondered if the info is still applicable. Are travelers cheques easier/harder to use? Does using US money cause a lot of confusion for shopkeepers or restaraunts?

Use whichever is easiest for you. Most of the cash registers can change to US dollars at the push of a button so there is no confusion on their part. It's sometimes difficult for us to get used to the conversion but they will help you when needed.
Go to www.oanda.com/convert/cheatsheet You can print out a converter sheet to put in your wallet. It makes things easier. No guessing.

Hi,
I have been to the Cayman Islands numerous times. I don't think travelers cheques are the way to go anymore - there are in most places. There are many banks with ATMs in Georgetown - you get CI currency out of the wall. If you give a merchant U.S. dollars, you will get the change back in CI currency. It is a fixed rate of exchange, so using U.S. dollars there is not a problem. I haven't used travelers cheques on any of my foreign travels in over a decade. Even in Dubrovnik, Crotia, I used my ATM and Visa cards.
